heather holmes has the story. >> reporter: i just came down from city hall across the street where many people for the past two hours have been speaking out against this project. most of them were holding these signs and just minutes ago, the city council voted. council members siting with residents unanimously and they shot down ikea's proposal. that is exactly what a majority an overwhelming majority of people wanted as they argued that this particular proposal would negatively affect their quality of life. >> angry residents voiced concerns that what ikea wants to put here at hollis and 53rd street will shatter the piece they say currently exists here. >> we really feel it would change the character of our neighborhood to have that kind of activity right next to our home. >> reporter: it would operate seven days a week from 10:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. with deliveries every morning. >> there would be constant activity and noise and comotion. whether it's from the delivery trucks or from the customers in their vehicles and the banging and talking and cars in and out. >> reporter: creating
