ktvu's jade hernandez is outside of that plant with just how many people tesla plans to hire in the coming months. >> reporter: tesla told us they would told the official unveiling later this month. and that's probably why we haven't seen any visible signs that tesla is moving in. tesla is scheduled to take over a small portion of the nummi plant today. we were able to drive by the parking lot this morning. we saw cars inside and security moved us and away and part of the reason is because tesla is officially supposed to take over the plant. the former home of the manufacturing facility is what the facility is. 50 former nummi employees are already on tesla staff now and the company plans to hire 1,000

reporting live, jade hernandez, ktvu channel 2 news. >> thank you, jade. >>> 7:32. well, a jail nurse in the east bay is in very serious condition following a violent attack. it happened last night at the martinez detention center in downtown martinez. investigators say an inmate was being booked when he suddenly flew into a violent rage and attacked that nurse. she was badly hurt. now, the attack last night in martinez follows saturday night's deadly attack on a worker at napa state hospital. know, 37-year-old jess massey, the patient accused of killing that napa state hospital, is due in court today. he was arrested after 54-year- old donna gross was found kill in an outdoor area of the hospital on saturday. the motive is believed to be robbery. despite complaints from coworkers about a lack of security there, investigators say this is the first time an employee has been killed on the hospital grounds. >> there have been homicides there before, involving patients on patients. but it's rare. >> investigators aren't saying yes, how ms. gross died but an autopsy sche

jade hernandez is out there on the scene. what can you tell us, jade? >> reporter: within the last hour heavy white smoke has just filled this neighborhood. we spoke to the fire chief who told us this is a four alarm fire and pulled firefighters out of the building at this point. i know tara was talking about the traffic problems attached to this because this intersection is closed. even down the street is blocked off so the firefighters can work. now right here at hyde and bush is the st. francis memorial hospital located right at the corner. that gives you an idea where this fire broke out at 5:00 this morning. this four story apartment building is just a few buildings southeast of st. francis. we spoke to a resident who said flames just crawled from floor to floor. >> we heard a bunch of alarms going off so we came down here to check it out. and when we got here we saw a lot of black smoke coming up and then we saw fire boom out of the window. >> reporter: residents have been evacuated. so far no injuries have been reported. still a lot of onlookers

jade hernandez, ktvu channel 2 news. >> thank you, jade. >>> 7:02. well, just a couple of minutes ago, hundreds of nurses walked off the job in oakland. they are now on picture lines. take a look. this is a live picture. this is the live scene right outside children's hospital. this strike is scheduled to last about three day. now, during that time patients will still be able to get care. the hospital is bringing in replacement nurses to help cover all shifts. claudine wong is out there as well. she's keeping an eye on the situation and claudine's been talking to both sides of this labor dispute and will have more in the next half hour. >>> well, the victorian san francisco giants came home a couple of hours ago after taking the red eye from atlanta. now they are getting ready for philly in the national league championship series. kraig debro is live with all of the details. >> reporter: it used to be if you won the regular season, you're automatically in the world series and then we had division series play. if you win that, you're in the play. this

ktvu's jade hernandez is out there with all the details. what's happening, jade? >> reporter: the good news is the fire has been contained and no one was hurt. we were able to move our cameras a little bit closer so you can see. this is the apartment complex. it's called the village of park view right here in antioch. just in the back of this gate is the apartment complex that caught fire early this morning around 3:45. when we arrived firefighters had just been told pg&e had shut off the gas going to allow firefighters the ability to get inside and find out the cause this morning. we understand seven or eight families, firefighters weren't sure how many of the apartments were occupied, but seven or eight families are without a place to stay this morning. the red cross is assisting. we spoke to a resident who heard the noise this morning. >> we just heard loud bangs. it was somebody trying to kick doors in and then that's all i know. and we were out of our beds. >> reporter: this was a three alarm fire and dispatchers received numerous calls about it. some residen

jade hernandez, ktvu channel 2 news. >> thank you, jade. >>> oakland police are looking for two suspects in a home invasion robbery that happened overnight. they say the youngest victim is just 3 years old. ktvu channel 2 reporter claudine wong is live on the scene with the latest. good morning. >> reporter: good morning. yes. this investigation continues. police are still working for the two suspects responsible for terrorizing this family overnight. this morning, we are continuing to look into several things, whether this is possibly connected to other crimes. we do want to tell you what happened last night. it was about 11:00 last night. one of the victims told ktvu a family member was outside their home smoking near the intersection of 20th avenue and 20th street one of the -- the two suspects approached the family member. they were wearing hoods over their head. one suspect was carrying a silver revolver. one family member was held at gunpoint while suspects stole cash and electronic equipment, including a computer. there were 12 victims inside this house when all of this happened.

reporting live in san mateo this afternoon, jade hernandez, ktvu channel 2 news. >> all right. thank you, jade. >>> arson investigators are looking for the cause of a fire that damaged a town home and several cars in hey war. the fire broke out at just about 4:00 a.m. on arf avenue near hesperian boulevard. a neighbor recorded this home video. the flames spread to a carport and destroyed three cars. twenty people were evacuated from their homes. residents say they woke up to the sound of an explosion. >> it was like a -- i thought it was a shot gun at first and then my car alarm started going off. i thought maybe it was some sort of earthquake or something. >> reporter: this apartment suffered some damage but all of the other families were allowed to return almost immediately. no one was injured. investigators say the fire may have started inside a vehicle or a nearby dumpster. >>> republican senate candidate carly fiorina is in the hospital. according to her campaign, she was admitted this morning. fiorina, who is battling cancer, had reconstructive surgery this summer. her ca

jade hernandez, ktvu channel 2 news. >> all right. thank you, jade. >>> concord police are looking for two dangerous armed robbers who hit two restaurants last night. the first was a round table pizza on treat boulevard just before 9:00 p.m. the second one was about an hour later, four miles away at a subway shop in concord. police say in both robberies, the masked suspects forced employees to the ground at midnight. one was armed with a shot gun, the other a pistol. no to injuries were -- no injuries were all righted in either night's holdup but some people who work in the area are worried because they say the violence seems to be escalating. >> you never know. i mean, people could come in. it's more concerning that i go to these places and eat at them. what if i go in there and i'm in there or my friend is and these people come in and shoot them. >> police say the same people are responsible for similar incidents. >>> shots were fired at the pentagon. we'll tell you what investigators are saying. >>> a policy change was announced ab

jade hernandez has more. >> reporter: good afternoon. this is all that left of the building that caught fire earlier this morning. this apartment complex has a fire department not far away. firefighters scrambleds at the flames jumped from department to department. >> we just heard loud bangs. it was something trying to kick doors in. >> reporter: a broken gas line fueled flames at this apartment building. >> i think i was like the first one out. >> reporter: this man was one of the victims of the fire. despite a fire station a half a block away, the departments had had no -- apartments had no fire hydrant inside, forcing the firefighters to bring the hoses inside. >> tiptypically in these buildings there's four units together. they all caught on firened -- and that's what -- caught on fire and that's what we're dealing with. >> reporter: mains said they were -- neighbors heard popping. >> the red cross, they said they are gonna give us vouchers for clothes, toys for the babies and a place to stay. >> reporter: flames destroyed four amou

and ktvu's jade hernandez is in sacramento. she'll have more for us coming up shortly. >>> time now, 7:31. back here at home, fire investigators say it is still not safe to go inside of a restaurant that burned down in oakland last night. ktvu's kraig debro is there now with the very latest. good morning, kraig. >> thanks, dave. this is 29th and park. the park street bridge, going from alameda to oakland. you can see the firefighters on the roof. they cut through the roof. when they do that, they find a hot spot, spray water in, put it out. very difficult job. but they are doing what they have to do. there are still some hot spots that can hide in the pockets. there is a fire investigator out here. but as we said earlier, fire investigators and the other firefighters aren't going to go into that building yet because of the instability of the building. they got the call around 11:15 last night. to come out to this address. it's called tiki tom's restaurant and bar. when they got here, the building was fully engulfed in flames. y

jade hernandez has more on this investigation. good morning, jade. >> reporter: good morning. firefighters have been out to this neighborhood before, five times to the very same house. it may seem strange, even suspicious but we know at this point the home that caught fire last night was under construction at some point and the fires halted renovations. firefighters have fought the blaze outside fearing it was not safe to go inside. a young neighbor described what she saw. >> it basically caught on fire, the garden so like the father grabbed a hose and like basically just like sprayed -- threw water at the trees because it was going to catch on fire. >> reporter: the house is empty. no one lives inside. it's located on 2631 prentice place here in oakland. we do understand there was a man living in a tent behind the home from time to time, a transient. one neighbor said he hadn't seen that man in a couple of weeks but firefighters this morning told me they are not worried anyone was inside at the time sparks ignited the fire. the two-alarm fire did not leave much of a house lef

jade hernandez joins us now live from hillsboro with more on what's going on with that work. good afternoon, jade. >> good afternoon. the san bruno explosion left the pe nips la vulnerable. as winter approaches, the need for heat will only grow but with one less access pipeline. you can see the crews here working at a line similar to that so they can reconnect the two lines to replace the one lost in the explosion. it was an eerie similarity because both operated at the same pressure. 4752475 once per inch. the san bruno line was operating 11 pounds over the operating maximum. what you are looking at today is pg&e pushing out gas from the pipeline in order to clear it out. crews will purple the line and go to work reconnecting the pipeline to another line so that pg&e has ample supply of natural gas for the upcoming months. this is unusual but a necessary move for the gas company after the san bruno explosion which damaged a similar gas line. line 109 is continuing. line 132 was stopped. what we're going to do, interconnect those two lines so we can add additional gas into 10

ktvu's jade hernandez is outside that complex. with the latest details of what's happening out there. good morning, jade. >> reporter: good morning. a spokesman for the sheriff's office says there's nothing new to report in this attempted sexual attack that happened here in at this apartment complex. the complex has told security guards to patrol the complex. there is a guard behind the gate, and he's told to stop anyone without a parking permit. investigators are looking into whether saturday's attack was tied into the attacks on the 15th. this saturday, contra costa county sheriffs say a man forced a woman in an apartment and tried to rape her. the woman fell down the stairs and got hurt in the process to get away and she did. now some residents want out. one woman told us the property management company would not return her phone calls but she said she would fight the $3800 fee to break the lease. >> they haven't falled back. they can't give out any -- called back. they can't give out any other numbers for them. we have no one

ktvu's jade hernandez is in hayward right now with all the details. good morning, jade. >> reporter: good morning. we're live at hayward high where at the beginning of this week two 15-year-old twin boys were just students here. now they're embroiled in a disturbing case which has left one of the brothers dead and the other facing some very serious charges. let's take you to the neighborhood near hayward where alameda county sheriff deputies found a 15-year-old boy trying to set a house on fire. neighbors reported a burglary. deputies arrived to find the teenager had slashed himself with a knife and was asking responding officers to kill him. instead, the officers tasered him and he was rushed to the hospital. authorities searched for the teen's 15-year-old twin brother but did not find the body until yesterday in a ravine behind the home. neighbors said they heard about a suicide pact between brothers. the sheriff's office is still investigating. >> so he came out and demanded to be shot by the deputies. the deputies did not shoot him. he went back i

jade hernandez has been following all of the late- breaking details. she's back after checking in with the chp. good morning, jade. >> reporter: good morning. authorities put all of their resources in finding this 8- year-old little girl. it looks like it paid off. the chp confirmed for us a few minutes ago that the 8-year-old was found safe and sound. also good news, the kidnapper/suspected abductor has been found. a couple of people tried to stop the girl from going with the man last night but the man grabbed her and drove away. this is surveillance video tips poored -- poured in since she went missing. we received some tips for working very hard. the suspect ended up dropping the young girl off in the neighborhood. he was arrested at a separate location. the fbi assisted in this case, the national center for missing and exploited children, all of these agencies were called in to help this -- were called in to help find this 8-year-old girl. we heard from press know police this was the first time this was a stranger abduction in the nine years that t

jade hernandez is joining us. good morning. >> reporter: good morning. when firefighters responded to a fire inside of this apartment complex they had no idea what they would discover. we're live in fairfield this morning. firefighters discovered the bodies of twin girls. they have been cut or stabbed to death. their mother was also inside the apartment. he was air lifted to john mere medical center. a sergeant with the fairfield police confirmed this morning the department is investigating this as a murder attempted suicide. they believe they died because of the cut and stab wounds they received. >> they made the initial call based on the water flow alarm. however witnesses on scene then made a subsequent call to dispatch centers saying they had a fire in the apartment. >> the apartment complex at paradise valley is located in the 3,000 black. firefighters responded to the fire. that's when they discovered the bodies. if asked if they shown any history of mental illness or exhibiting signs of trouble at home police told us it was too early to know. the

jade hernandez is in vallejo this morning. 90 jobs will be eliminated. good morning. >> reporter: i've just learned from an employee here at this 7- up bottling plant that official work is done. there will be employees showing up here to finish up payroll. there is already an available space sign on the building opinion the bottling plant that has been here for 50 years will not be open tomorrow. work will shift to three other plants here in california. 90 employees will leave the city. some will be transferred others will receive severance packages. the city of vallejo is struggling. they say it's more efficient to do the bottling at other plants than here at vallejo. 44 jobs will be available. there was an employee that just pulled up. he turned the nights on in this building for ones of the last time. official work is done at this plant. but of course they still have to finish up payroll work. reporting live in vallejo this morning jade hernandez. >>> oakland police are investigating a shooting that happened a at popular shopping center. ktvu claudine

ktvu jade hernandez joins us from the scene. >> reporter: they called if is a second alarm. we don't know what actually caused this fire this morning. we know someone walking by noticed the fire and called 911 immediately. luckily there is a fire station about ten blocks away. as i mentioned earlier flames quickly spread and firefighters were concerned about a printing shop. wendys party supplies is located at 26 and santa clara. i've been told there is extensive damage inside wendys no one was hurt or inside at the time flame's broke out. >> one concern we have fires spread and travels from occupancy to occupance. we were able to go inside and keep the fire from spreading. >> reporter: still a lot of firefighters out here right now. they are wrapping up. fortunately for all in this area the fire was contained in ten minutes. one of the reasons is because that fire station was so close to where the fire broke out. firefighters were able to arrive in four minutes. coming up we have video of what firefighters saw when they arrived. i want to take you back out here live so you

in san francisco we had had had some rain and jane hernandez is there with a -- jade hernandez is there. the rain looks like it's ending in san francisco. but let's go to jade for an update. >> reporter: we're live at 18th and arkansas. crews have been out here for a few hours just trying to clean up this mess. that mess is create -- created by the rain. i want you to take a look at this video. this is workers cleaning up. workers are cutting up that tree in order to reopen the street. there are a lot of vehicles that can get in and out as long as they are nowhere near where this tree fell. the tree is closed at 18th and arkansas. the rain caused problems. it also causedflooding. crews were trying to clear the flooding. so what happened to peter chan, a royal taxicab driver, won't happen to anyone else. peter showed us how the water seeped into his cab after he says he was rear ended by a chp officer. he told us driving became impossible for him earlier this morning around 4:00, when a semitruck driver sped past him throwing huge amounts of water onto his windshield. >> it's dangerous.
