sharon chin is in oakland where a restaurant and a boat are burned. good morning to you, sharon. >> reporter: good morning. right here behind me the fire crews are still here on the scene spraying water on the roof at tiki tom's restaurant which was gutted in this three- alarm fire. we are on 29th avenue over the park street bridge. this fire broke out around 11:00 last night and firefighters say the entire building was in flames when they arrived. they say it appears that no one was inside. there are no reports of injuries. they don't even know at this point whether the restaurant was even opened at the time. now, fire officials say there was a pleasure boat tied to the dock that caught fire and ended up sinking. the fire was so intense, you could see towering flames, several blocks away from the freeway. now, to protect the nearby condominiums here, as well as the rest of the dock, the fire crews said that they used a fire boat that was decommissioned because of budget cuts several years ago. but still maintained for earthquake emergencies. >> the b

we checked with oakland police a short time ago. the search for that suspect continues. >>> in oakland, the search continues for a suspect who attacked a teacher when she tried to stop him from stealing a classroom computer. it happened at burkhalter elementary school around 3:30 yesterday afternoon. when the first grade teacher confronted the suspect, he hit her, knocking her to the ground. he then ran away with the laptop. the suspect is only described as african-american, 5'7", 140 pounds with tattoos on his chest. >>> a 12-year-old boy in san jose was cited for bringing a pellet gun to school. the boy was sent home because of a fight. he returned with a pellet gun and pointed it toward the school when it let out. >>> police continue to search for a gunman who robbed a sunglasses store. this happened at the sunglasses hut in the castro district last saturday. after pulling out a gun, the robber demanded employees fill a bag with sunglasses. he's described as just over 6 feet tall, about 300 pounds. the suspect escaped in a black

so he was heading towards oakland. he crashed into a driver in the correct direction heading through the area. that driver was taken to the hospital so the webster street tube will be closed until about 6:30. you may want to consider alternates such as the park street or fruitdale avenue bridge just to get around that mess until that time. in the meantime, terry mcsweeney has arrived at the scene and has the latest information for us. terry? >> broadway and oakland and this is the entrance to the webster tube. this connects oakland with alameda and it has been closed since about 12:30. here is a van. we've seen this all morning long. we see the airport shuttle bus going up to the tube unable to go through. about midnight, as frances was saying, there was a car stop on the alameda side. the car took off. alameda police say they did not pursue. and the car went the wrong way through the webster tube, slammed into another car going the correct way. as it happens in a surprising number of these cases, the person going the

christie smith is live in oakland with how things are shaping up. doesn't look like it's raining now. >> reporter: no, thank goodness. except for the wet streets, there few signs of how bad it was. the street lites are out along broadway. this had a big impact on oakland and the east bay for hours at the bart station t. took six hours for the power to come back on. the bart station was affected too. the train was unable to stop at those stations. they had to operate on a generator for a time and the oakland police department host power for hours as the street was dark. many signals were not working. pg&e saying about 15,000 customers lost power. the last word we had this morning, everyone has been restored and all power back on. pg&e blamed equipment failure on the wind and the rain. >> i never had an experience like this before. never. especially with the whole city just about going out. >> in the north bay, it was up to 55 miles an hour. an oak tree crashed on to a home and no one was hurt. the rain came as quite a blow to grape growers in wine co
