but we could see an accelerated rise of maybe three or four times that according to,ip sfpuc. instead of half a foot we could see three feet. you know out here at fort point here in san francisco. first of all we don't know what the climate is doing to do, but secondly, the way ice gets dumped into the ocean from the land based - well sea level rises from one, the water gets warmer and inflates because it's density is less and that's well understood and handled by climate models. what's not well handled is the fact that when ice gets shed from green land and antarctica, there's 70 levels that if it all melted would raise sea levels but the problem is it's not like an ice cube where we're shining a lamp on it to watch it drip. it might slip. we're seeing more and more of these failures and we saw part of antarctica, shed off in a few days. somebody was looking at satellite map's and away it went. that caused sea levels to rise. that mechanism is not well represented in models or understood very well. sea level rise by itself is gentle three feet of rise may not do too much but

the park and i was listening to this professor from uc-berkeley who bring students here to talk about sfpuc and all of the politics, the bonding. i was really surprised that a professor from berkeley has taken it upon himself to share information like this, because as you know, commissioners, you do what you have to do, but what leads things to happen is politics. and our young people should know about all the politicking that goes on and how sometimes if you pay attention to the maintenance of our infrastructure it pays good dividends, and if you do not pay attention to the maintenance of our infrastructure then we have rapid issues. jon is a great guy in all the time i have known him. it is really said that he is leaving, but i suppose you have to retire sometime. i am requesting that we tap into his experience, bring him back sometimes, though he may enjoy his retirement sometimes, and share his experience with the students. and i think he will say yes if you do it the right way. thank you very much. >> thank you, mr. dacosta. >> next item is the report of the general manager. >> there i

first of all, i just want to applaud sfpuc staff, and especially commissioner ellis, for especially bringing this process into the 21st century. this goes beyond words community benefits and becomes more like interactive community process about what the entire community is going to be like and much more holistic. some specific recommendations, a very specific one -- i do not know if it is in there or not, but i do not think the sfpuc has yet barrier wetlands plants, and i think that needs to be integrated. new orleans had serious problems because it focused on sea walls instead of restoring what land barrier have attacked it would have protected new orleans better against sea level rise disaster events. i also want to second what share maxwell said about community process. i think it is important that maybe redo the spreadsheets for the presentations so that community benefits is not the democratic process is not under community benefits but how you reached community benefits and so there is a very aggressive process to go out and reach the entire community in public entire community in publ
