it is showing that it will continue to move very, very slowly over the south china sea, picking up a bit more energy before moving into southeastern china, possibly taiwan as well by the end of the week, making landfall here as early as saturday local time but still early to tell. it could change its course fairly quickly, so it's best to keep updated with your local weather reports and even places like hainan island and vietnam should brace yourselves and keep a very close eye on this storm system. now, of course, this is the area that has been dealing with serious flooding recently. here is a look at the situation in thailand dealing with widespread severe flooding. rescue operations still going on in central and northeastern areas dealing with lots of flooding problems. in vietnam as well, in central areas, dealing with lots of flooding problems here. the death toll is now reaching 40, and this is the second time that the floods have hit the area this month, so the situation is very, very serious indeed. it looks like dry weather will prevail across northern vietnam over the next

let's begin with our typhoon megi here, still making an impact in the south china sea. it is looking to head between taiwan and fujian province bringing winds of around 120 kilometer per hour near the center, but we could have stronger ones. so it is weakening. when it was a strong system earlier in the week. now it is going to be bringing more rain over the next 24 hours. keep in mind, places like taiwan, areas have seen over 1,000 millimeters since wednesday. so, of course, any additional moisture is really going to enhance any risk problems with flooding and mud slides. now, across the rest of east asia, we're going to see wet weather conditions also in southern japan. amami islands seeing that rain enhanced by megi in the vicinity. and then we have a cyclone as well here and that's going to be impacting much of myanmar. this is going to be giddy, giddy has been with us for much of the week, but now making its way on to land, very, very strong system. take a look at the statistics with this. wind speeds over 200 kilometers per hour, gusts much stronger than that. and

we're keeping a close eye on typhoon megi that continues to move very slowly over the south china sea. it is steadily approaching the southeastern corner of china, due to make landfall here by the end of the week. further intensification is likely during the day but maintaining that strength generally over the next few days. now, you can see the strong winds still impacting the northern end of the philippines. we'll start to feel the effect of the storm in taiwan. fujian as well as guangdong later today starting with strong winds. could potentially see dangerous high waves as well. and of course there's going to be torrential rains, looking at over 100 millimeters to accumulate in parts of taiwan in the next 24 hours. and the weather is, of course, going to be going downhill this week. and so do brace yourselves if you are in the area. one fortunate thing is it is going to stay away from hainan island and the indo-china peninsula where people have been dealing with severe flooding since last week. still looking at widespread flooding in many areas in thailand under flood waters. now,

now, a very wet area continues to be the south china sea, indo china peninsula area. hainan islands looking at more showers today, more of that rainfall really keeps on accumulating in this region. now, central china, at least, will see the rain ease off as we head into later on today, looking a lot drier by friday morning so that at least is good news. meanwhile, japan will see a lot more cloudy weather today, chances of showers here and there, and then all come friday a little bit more significant amounts of rainfall will move in towards the north. highs on thursday shaping up to be 23 degrees in tokyo, a little bit cooler than yesterday but still on the warm side. 23 also in shanghai, 27 for taipei, and then getting up to 30 degrees in manila with officially thundershowers. over towards the americas, and we do still have our hurricane with us, hurricane paula has weakened slightly. it's now a category 1 storm system, but packing winds of 140 kimeters per hour, gusts are going to be much stronger, so these are damaging winds that could still affect parts of western
