now, i don't think i need to remind you that a lot of folks in the central valley and southern california get their water through the delta. and they expect that it will be fresh rather than salty. now that i've completely depressed you, let me give you the good news. even though i showed you a map of san francisco international airport under water in 2100, it won't happen. san francisco won't become the venice of the west. silicon valley won't become the loss city of atlantis, and salt water won't come out the taps in southern california. why? because however much it costs we can't afford to let this happen. so we will build levies around the airports, we will build a seawall around the san francisco waterfront. flood control is already being incorporated into the planning for the salt pond to wetland conversion project in the south bay and we'll change the way we store and move fresh water around california. economically, we don't have any other choice. but the cost will be enormous. and where we'll get the money and what other important investments and expenditures we'll have to forego

he's displayed that. >> 36-year-old alex diaz from southern california. he's a parolee convicted of grand theft. police say he used this stolen van as weapon yesterday morning. they say he aimed it straight at officer patrick broward as he stopped his motorcycle in the center of the road. >> this wasn't a traffic accident. this was mr. diaz trying to get away by running over our police officer. >> police say the van dragged broward and motorcycle through 2 lanes of traffic. van came to sudden stop at warm springs boulevard near highway 8 80 when the vehicle hit a light pole. the collision pinned officer broward between the van and the street light. it took rescue workers 15 minutes to free broward from the mangled wreck annual. dozens of heavily armed officers went looking for the driver. some with dogs. they set up road block. searched cars and truc trucks. then early last night they got a break. police stopped a bart train at the south hayward station. they detained someone they call an associate of diaz. man who investigators say then helped identify h
