to conduct the fbi. the number is 410-265-8080. >> you spoke of additional defendants will there be more elected officials brought up at this time? >> we're not going to comment on who might be charged in the case other than to tell you there will be additional charge and additional defendants. >> what role did election day play in the timing? >> election day played no role in the timing of these arrests. in fact, as you can discern from the affidavit the arrests were dictated by the defendants rather than law enforcement. what we mean is we followed the evidence and in this case we acted to quickly developing crime. >> are you concerned that mr. johnson may have tried to destroy evidence or tamper with witnesses -- >> the judge released mr. johnson on certain conditions. one is not to destroy evidence. we always worry about destruction of evidence in our cases. but this this case we have taken a lot of steps today, as i mentioned, the search of 13 location and gathered a fair amount of evidence we will

the fbi says johnson took $15,000. the fbi burst into the room. johnson said it was a contribution for his going away party as he leaves office for county executive. the fbi took the check and let him go. it continued to monitor johnson's phone. that is where the story takes an interesting turn. according to the affidavit, the fbi intercepted phone call from -- between jack johnson and lesley johnson. johnson called his wife at home and told him -- told her to get the $100,000 check out of his four and flush it down the toilet. then the conversation goes on. at one point, johnson instructed his wife to get some cash hidden in the home. in the tape-recorded covers asian, johnson's wife said she would stuff the money in her bra. at that point, the fbi burst into the home. they surged leslie johnson and found $80,000 in cash stuffed into her underwear. both were arrested and charged with tampering with evidence today. the federal corruption charges will certainly follow. right now, we are waiting to hear from the u.s. attorney with more details. brad

fbi raided the meeting. johnson said that the cash was for a party for his retirement, not knowing that the whole thing had been caught on camera. johnson was released. the fbi was at their front door. he instructed his wife to find and rip up a check from a developer for $100,000. she asked if he wanted her to put it down the toilet and then you heard a flushing toilet. she asked if she should take the cash. johnson told his wife to put it in her braw and walk out. -- in her underwear and walkout. agents found huge sums of cash hidden in her lingerie. >> i have three weeks to go and i will put all of my efforts into this defense and to take care of the business for the people of prince george's county for the remaining three weeks. >> prosecutors told the judge that they are worried about further witness tampering. they asked that the johnsons be limited to $100,000 transactions. the judge kept the limit, but said that he would make an exception for pepsico -- for petco. >>> new at 11:00 p.m., a couple of f

fbi and the irs. according to the u.s. attorney, the scene involves the -- or the crime, rather, the charges involve transport and distribution of unpacked cigarettesnd alcohol, also one of the police officers is facing drug andgun conspiracy charges, so very, very serious charges here. again, this began to unfold early this morning. both the fbi and the irs are involved all they will say is they are executina number of search warrants at a number of different locations, some of which are here in prince george's county. this has to do with the trafficking of cigarettes and some other charges, as well, gun charges and for some, drug charges, as well. so very serious situation for th folks who are facing these charge including three prince george's county police officers. in terms of how long this has been going on or connection to other cases they will not comment. all they will say at this point is this has been part of an ongoing investigation and that they are executing these warrants. we have no id

we have a phone call the fbi documented. between the two of them, he says to her to tear up the check. then leslie is saying, they're saying fbi, jack. do you want me to put it down the toilet? and he said yes. flush that. now, the fbi believed that they were referring to a $100,000 check that a developer had written to the county executive. at this point, in the conversation, he tells her to put the cash into her underwear. and she says, quote, i have it in my bra. now, the fbi, once they got into the home, found and seized more than $79,000 in cash from inside mrs. johnson's bra. and now, they are still in court behind me. they are being processed. and alex, they will be released tonight on their own recognizance. but the county executive will be wearing a home monitoring device to be monitored. >> thank you very much, kelly. and the charges are very serious. they carry a maximum penalty of up to 20 years in prison. jack johnson is finishing up an eight-year term here in prince george's county. his wife was just elected to

out of the courtroom and the fbi said they took both johnsons in to federal custody stemming from an incident on november 12th, tampering with witnesses and evidence in the commission of a federal offense and destruction and altering of evidence. the maximum penalty for these crimes is 20 years. here's what is going on when they left the courtroom. they were discussing the dates for the preliminary hearing on december 13th at 11:00. the government wanted both johnsons to be held in home detention with electronic monitoring. they would be able to go to work. make medical appointments and court appointments. no international travel. turn in passport by 4:00 p.m. on monday. no financial transactions greater than 1,000 there's. they said they found $80,000 in cash at the home today so they are concerned about that. that was a key sticking point for one moment. investigators talked about how they searched the home, the office, the car, they searched them and found boxes that were stored and 80,000 there's in cash that was found at their home. they also say this investigation involves a lo

that's hardly all the fbi accuses these two of covering up. the affidavit describes agents arrived at their house friday with search warrants while leslie johnson called her husband on a phone that investigators were secretly monitoring. the fbi says jack johnson told her to go to my drawer and you will see a check that a developer not named here wrote to me. the febs believe it was for $100,000. he said "tear up the check." his wife asked if she should put it down the toilet. his response, "yes, flush that." he then told her to put the cash in her underwear. "put it in your bra and walk out or something." she replied, "i have it in my bra." agents soon found the cash right where she it was, all $79,600, in her bra. the fbi says this is part of a corruption case sparked in 2006 over developers giving gifts to local officials in return for favors and federal taxpayer dollars. >> we are committed to putting an end to public officials who dishonor their office by accepting bribes in exchange for favorable treatment. >> reporter: jack johnson wave

the fbi says the terror threat was real and the suspect planned a grand attack. let's bring in nbc's counter terrorism expert. good morning, roger. >> good morning. >> the suspect is 19 years old. mohamed mohamud, this naturalized somali who was in contact apparently with someone from pakistan. what do we know about the people he might have been talking to? >> well, carl, this is the most interesting unknown question now -- unknown answer to it which is who was he? this is someone who was in the united states. he attended high school from 2007 to 2009. then went to yemen and then pakistan. when mohamud tried to contact him, he contacted him at an internet address traced back to the northwest frontier in pakistan which is where most of the terrorist infrastructure is. what we are seeing is another example of a pakistani nexus to a lot of the u.s. homegrown extremist plots. finding this individual, i think, is going to be a high priority for u.s. counter terrorism. >> authorities think he was probably acting alone, not under direction of a larger foreign group. wha
