the northeast looks forward to a much-needed meltdown. >> let's get the latest from accuweather meteorologist ava dinges. >> good morning, rob and mike. i have great news for the northeast. things are looking quiet. and temperatures even starting to warm up above freezing as we head into the afternoon. it's going to continue to warm into the next several days. out towards the west, that's where we have all of the problems. it had been raining very heavily across western oregon, much of california, throughout the overnight hours. this rain continues to sink into the south. really none of california needs any of this rain. we've seen some minor flooding concerns around san francisco. that's just tapering off to a couple of showers. throughout the morning a quick shot of heavy rain in los angeles but this is a quick-moving storm system so it's not able to cause much damage. behind the storm, the temperatures really dropping down. another foot of snow along the sierra mountain range. problems along i-80, donner pass. heavy mountain snow into the rocky mountains as well. salt lake city could see a

accuweather meteorologist ava dinges has the latest. >> good morning, rob and mike. the cleanup continues in the wake of this massive blizzard that affected the northeast, and looking at the snowfall map you can really see why. all in the dark shading of blue. that's areas that received more than a foot of snow just over a two-day period. and any areas that you see even darker blue, that's about 12 to 18 feet of snow. that fell and that even included new york city's central park. we actually set a record. sixth-snowiest blizzard of all-time with 19.8 inches of snow falling in new york city over this blizzard. we set a record in atlantic city for the all-time snowiest day, where they received 17.4 inches. so it looks like we're really going to continue to clean out after this snowstorm. and winds are still going to be a major problem. most of the snow has ended despite some lake effect snow showers coming into upstate new york. with the winds still racing at 30 to 40 miles per hour, we are talking about widespread drifting and blowing. just as they start to clean off

accuweather's jeannette calle has the latest forecast. good morning, jeannette. >>> good morning, bob and vinita. the west coast will continue to get bombarded with heavy rain and heavy mountain snow. the wet weather started here on friday and it continued into the weekend. we're still forecasting the rain and snow to continue through at least the middle of the week. the l.a. area in the last 24 hours has picked up close to 3 inches of rain. and the valleys of southern california through tuesday could pick up an additional 2 to 4 inches of rain. so the series of forms will continue to produce problems especially with flooding. and mud slides. we're also talking about snow-clogged passes. i-80 on donner summit may be shut down due to the heavy snowfall through this monday night alone. snow levels in the sierras will continue to fall from 6,000 to 500 feet before casting 6 to 12 inches. from 7,000 to 8,000 feet, an additional 1 to 3 feet of snow. meanwhile, off the east, there's a storm system off the coast, boston may see a couple of inche

accuweather's ava dinges is here with more. hi, ava. >> good morning, rob and mike. talk about a role reversal here. nothing going on in the east. all of it happening in the west. for the northeast, things are looking good for the next several days. next time new york city gets anything, that will be in the weekend. and it will come in as some rain. we've seen lots of rain in the west. pretty heavy across oregon and through much of california in the overnight hours. this is mainly shifting southward, where we're starting to see colder air sink in behind the storm. that's going to translate into heavier mountain snow. high winds is a concern along the grapevine in southern california. for los angeles, much of the rain pushing in throughout the morning hours. any additional rain could lead to minor flooding. in the good news is, this is a quick-moving storm, where it will move out in the afternoon. it will go pummel the rockies, and into salt lake city. for the southeast, it's been chilly over the past couple of days. fortunately, temperatures are warming up. it will b

. >> with more on the deep freeze we're joined by accuweather's ava dinges. good morning to you, ava. >> good morning, rob and vinita. a legitimate reason for some people in florida to grab their winter coats. here we're taking a look at morning temperatures. 18 in jacksonville. tampa 30. even miami 35. but some low-lying areas could even be to that freezing mark. and it's really because the cold air is coming in across the central tier of the country, sliding its way all the way into florida. while portions of central florida may be into the 20s, it may be even warmer than that to start the day in new york city. 21 in new york city, where jacksonville is looking to be at 18 degrees. all this cold air in the east has also been sparking up lake-effect snow. heavy snow in northern indiana, continuing throughout the day. also eastern ohio, east of cleveland, all the way back into buffalo. some locations have already seen a foot of snow and could see an additional foot throughout the day. into the west it's all about the rain. we've seen about 4 inches of rain in

was a surprise storm we were notified about early this morning by the national weather service and accuweather said there was a narrow band of snow coming through the district. and we already had about 15 trucks out to salt the major roads, and we called in an additional 20 to 25 trucks. we have a number of trucks out there just spots and the hilly rds a the main arteries. far haven't heard of any issu. there might be slick roads that peop should be aware of. hopefully by the time most people hit the road this will no longer be an iue. but people shou definitely take -- be careful out there until we know exactly what the situation is. >> do you expect the situaon to affect traffic in some of these trouble shots? a number of people were coming into work saying their wheels spun out and they hit slick spots out on the roads. >> i think it definitely could affectome folks. i think right now, you know, if people are aware -- if people come across some slick spots when they get to where they're going, if they had call 311, the mayor's call center, and let us know if there's particularly treacherous

accuweather's ava dinges has the latest. >> good morning, rob and vinita. the cold is here to stay in the eastern two-thirds of the nation. in the northeast, we have an area of low pressure stuck in quebec, and that is ensuring that the winds are still chilly over the great lakes region and building to the east coast as well. those cold winds moving over the warm lakes are actually going to kick off the lake-effect snow again throughout the day. we've seen snow in areas like buffalo, watertown for the past couple of days. still a concern as we head throughout the rest of the day. poor travel across i-90, across portions of i-80 as you head through the mountains. all because of the snow falling, also the snow that's already been on the ground. some locations could pick up at least an additional 6 inches in many of those snow bands. temperatures staying bitter in the northeast. new york city 36. boston barely getting into the upper 30s. this cold is reaching all the way down into florida as well. a hard freeze to start the day across the panhandle and even fr

. >> accuweather meteorologist ava dinges is tracking this weather system. good morning. >> good morning, vinita and mike. the worst may be over for the midwest. but we'll see heavy snow move into the great lakes. as the storm system lifts into canada bringing rain into maine but the bulk of the storm is lifting to the north. it's the harsh, cold winds moving in behind the storm that's going to take off the lake-effect snow. we've been tracking heavy snow bands into northern indiana overnight. now, that's starting to build into northern ohio, east of cleveland and into upstate new york. these localized areas could see one to two feet of snow, all the way into wednesday. you combine that with the gusty winds and whiteout conditions could be possible, along i-80 and portions of i-90. treacherous travel not over yet for those areas. it's all the cold air moving. and temperatures in the single digits in minnesota. when you factor in the winds, it can feel like negative numbers. all the way from minnesota to chicago. and this cold, reaching into the southeast, as

. >> we turn to accuweather's jeannette calle for what is in today's forecast. good morning, jeannette. >> hi, there rob and vinita. excessive rain and snow will continue to hit the state of california. it started friday, continued into the weekend. we're still expecting to see heavy rain and snow through at least the middle of this holiday week. this is all due to a series of disturbances coming in from the pacific. so far, the l.a. area has picked up close to 3 inches of rain and the valleys of southern california through at least tuesday could pick up an additional 2 to 4 inches of rainfall. flooding and mudslides along the california coast will be a problem through at least the middle of the week. also heavy snow in the sierras. we're forecasting through monday night from 6,000 to 6,500 feet, an additional 6 to 12 inches of snow. above 8,000 feet in the sierras, we're forecasting anywhere from 3 to 5 feet of additional snowfall. meanwhile, in the northeast, the major cities -- new york city down into philadelphia and d.c. -- escaping the snowstorm. most of t
