fox 5s gary mcgrady is here with a look at what to expect tonight. gary? >> reporter: thanks a lot, wisdom. it's going to get cold again and has been so nice today. with the absence of the wind blowing at 65 miles an hour and some sunshine this afternoon, it was real, real nice. the temperatures warmed up above freezing for a change and that means we're melting, well, week find slippery spots in the next few hours and let me show you the temperatures out there right now. 36 degrees in washington and you can see gaithersburg in the upper 20s in some spots and definitely below freezing, monasses, frederick, hagerstown, martinsburg at freezing and the temperatures tonight, tumbling back down into the teens. some locations with this light wind and fairly clear skies and some snowpack on the ground, may fall into the lower teens and get real close to some single digits. another hard freeze is expected tonight and we'll see some clouds and by tomorrow morning, the outs -- clouds will thicken up a bit and it will be cold again tomorrow with clouds out there and s

. >> this wasn't a surprise snow because gary mcgrady was talking about it yesterday afternoon. even i today didn't deal with it most of the way in and than all of a sudden got to about river road and went wait a minute. what is going on around here? >> snow on the ground. there is definitely snow out there on the ground particularly in the northern portions of the viewing area. the northern half of the beltway has some snow on it. a couple of spots in washington, d.c. but mainly we are talking about in maryland. we are continuing to see some snowfall, some light snowfall this morning to our north. let's jump right in. we'll show that to you. hd radar and as you mentioned, gurvir, gary was talking about it. we've had it and here it is. you can see some light snow falling now roughly speaking along 270. it does include the cities you see here from gaithersburg up to frederick but that includes laurel and often lney and beltsville and reaching down towards the bw parkway. so there you go. columbia, you are not getting any but you might get some a little bit later on. -- and olney.

gary mcgrady is in the weather center with more on the conditions out there. hey, gary. >> reporter: the snowfall is pretty much ended out there and it continues to diminish and this is it, to show you what we're seeing. most of it now is confined to the south and the east and there is a little bit lingering to the west and winchester is getting very, very light snow and that will probably transition off to the east and into leesburg. i don't see anything else out there accumulating and think what you have on the ground is what you will end up with and these are the temperatures, up a degree in the city and the snow stopped, warming up a bit. 27 degrees and well below freezing, though, everywhere and they will cool off more and to the evening as well. the winter weather advisory is in effect until 9 tonight and may bring this down early. you know be careful if you have to be out and don't, stay at home and things will get more frozen, especially in the untreated areas and i have to suspect tomorrow morning, we'll have slippery spots, too. the complete forecast

gary mcgrady in the weather center with more tonight. >> i was here last night we were talking about we would see the snow and possibly this morning and that happened. the good thing for us is the roads were fairly warm. unless it was bridges or overpasses it wasn't much of a problem out there. we had been getting fingers of snow coming from the northwest. that's basically what you were seeing there in frederick. you get some of these and it can put down a little burst of snow and you wait five to ten minutes and you are back to sunshine and that's indicative of the streamers coming down from the northwest, the winds are blowing 30 to 45 miles an hour from the northwest and it's just stretching the snow out. and we have a great deal of instability aloft. that's helping to create these little lake effect streamers, if you will, and they continue. we can see some on radar right now. we could see some flurries this evening. 30 in the city. that doesn't tell the story. because the winds are really howling out there. and there they are. the single digit wind chill factors that we were tal

bob barnard is live in the district, but we'll begin with gary mcgrady. how cold will it get tonight? >> real cold and you've got to factor in, too the wind which something is we've been talking about quite a bit because the real feel temperature is how feels with the wind. first of all, we show you what's going on with the temperatures tonight. it's been cooling down the last several hours. it's a very dry atmosphere. the dew point, the amount of moisture in the air, has plunged to about 2 and 3 degrees areawide. so it's extremely dry. the winds will help keep up the temperature a bit, but, of course, the winds making it feel a lot more uncomfortable. feels like 8 degrees right now in the city, dulles it feels like 7 degrees and hagerstown down to 1. now remember this is not constant, so as the wind goes up and down, the wind chill temperature can get even lower than that. that kind of gives you an idea how cold it was at the top of the hour when they took the measurement there. now teens in the suburbs tonight, temperature in here in town probably settl

fox 5's gary mcgrady is here with the latest on the forecast and what to expect the rest of the night and into the weekend. >> remind me not to make a bad forecast because i think wisdom will tell me what he thinks. i don't know why i think that, but something tells me i'll get an earful with the bad forecast. i think we got a good one for the weekend. i think we can figure this one out. here's temperatures. we just showed that on the beltway. there's going to be slippery spot. hook, outside the beltway temperatures -- look, outside the beltway temperatures are dropping again tonight. part of this has to do with the mostly clear skies out there, high pressure settling in and a little snow left on the ground tends to it take the temperatures down. we've dropped 4 degrees in the last hour in the city, down to 28 now, manassas usually a cold spot, 16 degrees, gaithersburg 19 and you can see back out to the north and west temperatures right at freezing, if not a little below. there will be some slick spots and temperatures tonight in the teens for the suburbs. i think 24 or so here in tow
