good morning, kraig. >> reporter: good morning, pam. you got the support yesterday early evening late afternoon. didn't have an address. we now believe we know where this happened. not confirmed by police but a look on the ground on that driveway across the street on white sand road here in east san jose tells a pretty convincing story of what happened here yesterday. we talked about it. show you a close up of the bloody scene, but we also wanted to tell the story of a woman attacked by two pit bulls until she started to bleed. police say the unidentified woman was getting into her car in the driveway of one of the homes here when the dogs attacked. police say two dark gray full bred dogs attacked around 6:20. neighbors heard the woman's screams and came to her aid. the dogs eventually ran off but that was after neighbors started to talk back to them. we talked to a couple people who live here who describe themselves as responsible pit bull owners. >> i'm cautious when i'm walking around with her any way. checking out seeing if there's

ktvu's kraig debro explains why this morning. good morning, kraig. >> reporter: good morning, pam. you know, f.b.i. police chief said he made a request to the f.b.i. yesterday said he called them asking for an independent investigation. derek jones owned this barbershop here on bancroft. and last month on november 8th he ran from the barbershop after somebody called police regarding a domestic violence dispute. now minutes later jones was in an alley just around the block from here and ended up dead when officers said he reached for his waistband that night. it all started like i said 8:00 p.m. or 9:00 p.m. on the night of november 8th jones was shot and killed that night. now according to my opd source, one of the officers has been identified about four years on the force and a member of the opd s.w.a.t. team. both he and a second officer cornered jones in an alley at bancroft and seminary. they shot jones after he reached for his waistband. a man working in his own business that night said the gunfire sounded excessive. >> i heard all those shots, i thought it was a shootout. so

good morning, kraig. >> reporter: good morning, dave. we just spoke to a witness who heard, saw and then almost experienced the shooting. it happened just behind me at 15th and madison on the northwest corner of this intersection next to that apartment building. now according to our witness multiple shots were fired. but not all of them hit the intended target. the victim wasn't the only thing hit with gunfire. a bullet pierced a window in the building next to where the shooting took place. the victim got the worst. he was shot more than once and taken to highland hospital. his name and condition are not known but our witness says the victim was well enough to sit on a parked car until help arrived. this all happened around 11:15 last night. the woman said she heard arguing between one or more people and then five or six shots. >> it was kind of scary because there were all these shots and at first i was like is that really a gunshot? i'm not sure what that sounds like. and then i actually went to the floor which is strange because i'd n

ktvu channel 2 reporter kraig debro joins us now from san bruno with more on the story. good morning. >> reporter: good morning. we're out here live in san bruno. it's a little rainy out here. it's the ground zero of the september explosion. if you look around the this neighborhood you will see the evidence of what happened here on september 9th all over the place. last half hour we saw the melted siding. now we are showing you the house that is boarded up here. it's not clear if the ntsb will place the blame with anyone for that september 9th explosion that killed eight and destroyed 37 homes. more than two months removed from the explosion people are still living with the aftermath. the repture at earl avenue and glen view drive released 47.6 million standard cubic feet of natural gas. that is half the amount an average home uses in a year. the explosion created a crater approximately 72 feet long by 26 feet wide. a pipe segment about 28 feet long was found 100 feet away from that crater. now the release of natural gas was ignited after the fire. according to the ntsb

kraig debro is joining us live with the latest. >> reporter: good morning. i just confirmed this is a robbery with the berkeley sergeant. this is the 1100 block of san pablo. you take a look right there, there is a couple of cop cars. the man speaking is holing an ice pack to his head. you can tell it was a violent robbery. paramedics arrived on the scene examing one of the employees that was knocked on the head during this takeover robbery or during this robbery. fewer details are vail right now. we have been able to confirm this is a robbery with berkeley police. there is several officers on the scene. there is an albany officer here. we don't know if the suspect went from albany or came from there. whomever did this made a hasty retreat. i walked around the perimeter of the building when i got here. it's a trail of money behind the restaurant here. apparently the thief or thieves dropped the money on the way out of the store. it's an indication of what happened earlier this morning. some kind of robbery. don't know how much the person got away with. right

i'm kraig debro. tori campbell is off. we begin with a horrible tragedy in oakland. three members of the same family including a 3-year-old child died in an early morning fire. firefighters believe the potential cause of the fire was completely avoidable. ktvu channel 2 reporter claudine wong is on the scene with more on the cause of the fire and the family. good afternoon, claudine. >> reporter: good afternoon. the victims lived in the second floor apartment down here. but we have come underneath. we want to show you this extension cord. the orange extension cord comes up into the second floor apartment where the victims lived. firefighters believe the victims were using that extension cord to provide power because theirs had been shut off. there were no detectors and very little warning to get out alive. in the end this fire took the lives of three people including a 3-year-old little girl. the time eric saw the fire, it had already taken hold of this four unit apartment building. he was next door when he saw the 7-year-old girl who lives inside that apartment bein
