this is an area the sonoma county sheriffs office is focused on. very dark out here. these are the conditions that 62-year-old phillis bin would have been dealing with on friday night. she had oregon to down e dinner a couple of miles from where we are this morning. it was on the drive from the restaurant to this point here that something happened. we're just not sure what. her friends were in front of her. she was following behind. when she got to this intersection or friends got to this intersection they looked back and did not see her. she has not been seen since. that was around 11:00 on saturday night. at 7:00 on sunday morning they went to the sheriffs office and reported her missing. this morning what we are expecting to happen is a swift water rescue team and marine teams to come out here. the russian river goes all a long this road. and they think at some point her vehicle may have left the roadway and gone into the water. we drove that this morning, it is very dark. this woman is not from this area. she is from agora hills down in southern california. she wa

upscale animal preserve in sonoma county could have saved the life of a little girl. and certainly comforted her grandmother in the final moments of her life. >> we heard a huge crash and we thought it was lightning and then we heard screaming. >> reporter: a 50-foot oak tree had fallen on the luxury tent cabin of a 70-year-old woman and her 7-year-old granddaughter while they were reading stories together. grandma was trapped on the bed. granddaughter not hit was hysterical. >> we had to cut through the canvas to get girl out. no one had a knife. a man next door had little scissors that we got and kind of stabbed holes through it and started cutting and ripped it aparted. the little girl went back to play with brian's little brother. she kept asking, is my grandma okay? they put off telling her. >> we just kept telling her help was coming, the granddaughter was okay and we're here and after that... she was unconscious and then she passed away. >> this wasn't a stable situation at that point. it was windy and rainy. they didn't know that this tree was stable. they act

the band bringing moderate amounts of rain into parts of the north bay into parts of sonoma. napa valley. lighter into san rafael. still some pockets. you're traveling to san francisco this evening, well, here it comes this sliding in towards the bay area. got some bands of moisture that are moving on through. some brief downpours throughout the evening hours but the showers becoming more widely scattered throughout the night tonight and i think into tomorrow. so with that in mind you've got more showers in along the peninsula and right now in the san jose area it looks pretty good but you'll likely see showers within the next hour or so. in the meantime though, yes, this frontal system moving on by. it really brought some heavy rain into parts of the bay area and southern california. now a lot of that moisture is piling up in the sierra nevada where they have seen upwards of 6 to 8 feet of snow in the past 72 hours. impressive. temperatures outside. cool 40s and 50s. it is cold enough we will likely see the snow level drop down to about 4000 feet tonight. so if we do see som

sonoma county investigators say gayle fogu of alabama was reading to her 7-year-old granddaughter when the tree snapped at its base and collapsed. people nearby heard the commotion and managed to rescue the woman's granddaughter. >> we need to cut through the canvass to get the girl out and no one had a knife, so a man next door had these little tiny portable skizzors that we got and we started cutting. >> they didn't know that this tree was stable. they actually risked their lives to get in there and get the 7-year-old daughter out and to comfort the woman as she was dying. >> the good samaritans kept assuring fogu that her granddaughter was okay. there were reports of fallen trees throughout sonoma county with this week's heavy rains. >>> more erosion under a cliff underneath two apartment buildings in pacifica. authorities say tuesday's storm took a chunk of soil out from the foundation. 1/3 of one building is now unsupported. the city evicted tenants last winter from the buildings on espanot avenue. officials have been waiting for owners to stabilize the cliff, but insurance money

light rainfall in sonoma, napa, moving towards novato headed through inverness and headed towards san rafael, mill valley, san francisco, and eventually concord as well as vallejo. forecast for the morning, showers are expected. they will be light in nature. cloudy and fog and even some delays at sfo because of the low ceiling, the weather. temperatures for the morning, essentially in the mid- to upper 50s. for the afternoon, still a chance of a scattered renegade shower, 20% chance. otherwise a mix of sun and clouds and temperatures ranging highs in the upper 50s to the mid-60s. here's what's happening. got plenty of clouds still being pushed through the bay area. those clouds still hold a little moisture, and that's why we're going to keep the chance of rainfall in the forecast through the afternoon. but eventually those clouds will be transplanted, they will be moved by a high pressure system that's going to move everything out the way, change our flow, drier weather builds in more sunshine builds in, temperatures warm up, amazing weekend. it's going to be pretty nice. sierra forec
