i spoke with san pablo police. they tell me this did start as a routine traffic stop on that corner right there, san pablo dam road. one man in the car had other plans. the car pulled over here. it came to a stop at the gas station. one man inside apparently got out, started running around the parking lot. he ran over these bushes here, stumbled and kept going. police are saying he pulled a gun on an officer that was loaded and cocked. police say he was a parolee at large with an extensive criminal history. this started about 8:15 near san pablo dam road and ventura. a patrol officer pulled over a vehicle. the officer ran a check and when he returned to the car a man in the front seat had bolted with a back pack on him. the officer ordered the man to return to the car, instead he kept running and reaching for his waist band. the officer apparently shocked him with a taser one time, maybe more. the man kept going. there was a struggle. he broke free of the officer. >> the officer ordered the suspect to comply with h

pablo remains closed in both directions. maureen kelly explains how bad the crash was and why the police were chasing that car. >> reporter: this all started a little before 2:30 when a woman spotted two of her vehicles that were both stolen from her home. she called 911. they picked up pursuit of one of the vehicles, a stolen truck but lost sight of it while pursuing here. when officers came around this they saw that the truck had smashed into a power pole. it's that power pole that's leaning to one side. the driver of the stolen truck was found dead on arrival. the crash was so bad that it's not known if the deceased is male or female. the crash knocked out power to nearly 400 residents. he says about 100 of those customers including those here are expected to be without power until the early morning hours. traffic was also tied up because pablo had to be closed in both directions around the access scene for hours. they worked to restore power and several law enforcement agencies and the da's office investigate the crash s
