denise wagner, what do you tell your students -- i think you oversee 600? 523 journalism students at san francisco state. so how do you talk these days about the quality of the news? >> overall, the quality is quite spotty. there has been some stellar news stories coming from traditional, legacy media organizations, but you are also getting some really interesting coverage from some start-ups. talking points memo, a blog that does a lot of journalism. propublica doesn't allow as well. there is not any one place you can go to get stellar reporting. it comes from a lot of different places. the ecosystem itself has changed. we have citizen journalists, private-public partnerships, legacy media, start-ups. it is an uneven thing right now. >> how do you define who the journalists are in your class? >> that is an interesting question. many of my students think "the daily show" is news. while "the daily show" provides interesting insight, provide satire and parody of news, it is clear there is some element of news there. what is tricky is how you help students def

robert wagner turned out to be a senator in the roosevelt administration and the wagner act of 1985. allegedly is doing. perkins was successful in creating something called the factory investigating commission , new york state factory investment commission which became a template for such commissions around the country. they really went to work. they combed all over new york state, she and her. then not only looked into fire hazards, but they also got into an area that was just beginning to receive attention which was sort of what you would call toxic waste, the chemicals and gases that are produced in manufacturing processes. there were sometimes called the dangerous trades. no one had really looked into this much before. of course those kind of a fax are often hard to spot because sometimes they take years to develop. frances perkins also put yourself to try to discover and reform along those lines will. 1909, 1911, versions of these three developments. you saw a cross fertilization of cribs outside of labor like the woman straight union league coming on board and getting involved

wagner, the budget director is joining us to share the report. >> thank you 3 much. -- thank you a very much. i will walk through a of a brief high level summary of our deficit projection and the instructions that when got a couple weeks ago. the big picture is that on the revenue side we have some very modest recovery of revenues. i would tired -- categorize it more as a stabilization compared to the last few years. this is more stabilization then any indication we are seeing a sharp rebound in the fundamentals of the economy. we have anticipated we would start to see some flattening and some slow growth in our revenues. we still believe that would be the case, but it is a modest growth during good at the same time, that is offset by a relatively steep loss in federal revenues we have been projecting the past year. on the expenditure side, i think this is the usual story we have seen over the past few years. this is driven by personnel- related costs, including benefits and in the exploration of one-time savings we used to balance the budget. we have a net loss of $86.4 million in gene

cathy wagner with the san francisco international airport. i will start with item number five, the first modification to four leases allowing for the determination of four security food court locations [listsl stores] in the first terminal. sales have dropped 20% as a result in changes of tsa regulations and things that you can bring through the security checkpoint that have impacted customer and passenger behavior pretty significantly. the modification would allow for determination that these locations, reducing the food and beverage square footage at the airport by 3500 square feet. the budget analyst has estimated that the loss in revenue is around $400,000 per year. our concessions staff has looked at this and believes strongly that the majority of that money would simply be shifted from pre-security to post-security, more than made up for in the budget with our opening of the second terminal and all of the new food and beverage concessions that will begin their in the spring of 2011. i would be happy to answer any specific questions you
