live in santa clara this morning, marla tellez, "today in the bay." >>> thank you, marla. 5:36 right now. fremont teachers and school district leaders are not seeing eye to eye in new contract negotiations. they are set to meet thursday on a new three-year contract. teachers have not had a pay increase in three years and they want a raise to help cover rising health insurance costs. last week the district released a list of negotiation priorities including a salary decrease because of a huge los of funding over the past three years. the district also wants more power to evaluate and layoff teachers. >>> ac transit drivers now say that something needs to be done to protect them better on the job. after a shooting in north richmond drivers say they are often confronted with angry rider who is sometimes becoming threatening. as we reported earlier this month, somebody shot the back window of a bus at third street and grove avenue in north richmond. the union representing ac transit drivers and mechanics now plans to push for better safety standards. ac transit says it plans to put more

live in berkeley, marla tellez, today in the "bay area living." >> we have new details about what happened as a man died during a run this past weekend. firefighters who saw what happened say they were shocked and angry that nobody came to help the man after he collapsed. san francisco firefighters who happened to be running the kaiser per ma menty half marathon say the event had no medical staff or life saving equipment near the finish line at golden gate park. the firefighters tried to revive the man and claim that they waited 22 minutes for a city ambulance to arrive. they say nobody on the scene identified themselves as a medical worker. but event organizers say there were emts near the finish line and they tried to help the runner within five minutes of his collapse. the man did die. >> this morning pg&e executives say there are no other pipelines like the one in san bruno anywhere else in northern california. the "mercury news" reports that pg&e has not been able to find any other gas pipes with large sections welded together. federal investigators say faulty welds may be to blame fo

as "today in the bay's" marla tellez tells us, it is about wearing red. >> reporter: brent, i see you got the memo. brent, february is the american heart association's go red for women month, which means all month long you are encouraged to wear some red to shine a spotlight on heart disease. now, that is the number one killer of men and women in america. stroke is the number three cause of death in this country. and a heart attack kills a woman every single minute in the u.s. now, what's just as troubling, the heart association says only half of women they surveyed would call 911 if they thought they were having a heart attack. and many women don't even recognize several key symptoms. so today the department of health and human services is launching a first of its kind national campaign. it is called "make the call don't miss a beat." this means at the first sign of a heart attack call 911. so here's a look at the symptoms. number one, discomfort in the center of your chest which lasts more than a few minutes or that goes away and then comes back. two, general discomfort or pain in t

marla tellez has a look at the prices for us. >> reporter: good morning, brent. it is beginning to look like a no-win situation. we are at the 76 station right at the corner of brokaw and first near the san jose airport. and if you stop by to see us this morning to fill up, you are going to be paying $3.59 as the sign says behind me for regular all the way up to $3.89 for a gallon of premium. the average right now for san jose is $3.45 a gallon. that is 52 cents more than one year ago. the national average is $3.12. welsh guess what? we could be paying the dreaded $4 a gallon as soon as april. this is according to gas analysts at gasbuddy.com. the recent turmoil in the middle east is startly partly to blame. also, as i reported a few weeks ago, the valero refinery is closed for maintenance and other refineries in the bay area are also scheduled to temporarily close for similar prompts. that only drives up the price at the pump. here's a catch 22. if you are thinking about ditching the car and hopping on caltrain, for instance, to save some money, that may not be
