brian: about? linda: swordfishing, the book is structured around a 30-day swordfishing trip to the grand banks of newfoundland. brian: and what's your relationship with the whole perfect storm movie and the perfect storm story and sebastian junger? linda: well, i suppose most people, if they've ever heard of linda greenlaw recognize my name as the woman who survived the perfect storm. i was the captain of the andrea gail's sister ship, so most people make the perfect storm connection right, you know, very quickly. i was running that swordfishing boat the last six years that i swordfished and because of the book -- people always ask you how did the perfect storm change your life? the weather event didn't really change my life a great deal but the book by sebastian junger changed my life from fishing to writing. i started, because of the very generous portrayal of me in that book, started getting a lot of attention from the media and got some attention from publishers. brian: what year did the -- did

hey, mike. >> reporter: hey, brian. good evening. yes, the situation got worse today as finally the corps of engineers did what they said they were going to do. they blew a two-mile hole in a levee on the missouri side of the mississippi river. this to ease the pressure on the levee on the ohio river side and save the town of cairo, illinois. and this decision went all the way to the supreme court on sunday night. the first explosion went off last night, sending at least four feet of water across 130,000 acres of missouri farmland. this flooded 100 homes and left 200 residents homeless. now, there was a second explosion this afternoon, and a final one goes off this evening. now, so far the corps's plan has worked out like a charm. it's paid off. the ohio river has dropped a foot and a half from last night's record crest in cairo and they're expecting it to drop four more feet by wednesday morning. and brian, despite that the sun is out and there's no more significant rain in the forecast through the weekend, the ohio river behind me,

we begin with new information on injured giants fan brian stowe. ktvu's kraig debro joins us live from sf general, where we just got an update on his condition. is it good news, craig? >> reporter: it generally is. but the overall feeling is that it's too early to tell. here at san francisco general hospital, we just got word less than an hour ago that brian stowe's trip from los angeles up here to san francisco caused new no problems. they were worried about that because sometimes in transit a medical patient's condition can change based on the movement of the body and in in case, the plane being so high in the air. but no new problems. in addition, we're also learning from the trauma specialist here that brian stowe more than a day after being taken off a medication that was being used to stop seizures, is now doing better. >> being off that seizure medication for 24 hours only on four seizure medications, he remains seizure-free. >> the medical staff is worried about seizures because they can result in further brain injury. the doctor says 42-ye
