honda has already warned dealers it will run short of its popular civic later this summer, and toyota says it will have production delays of some vehicles into the fall. that's prompted george magliano, senior economist for i.h.s. automotive, to lower his sales forecast for the year. >> our forecast currently has been reduced to about 12.7 million units, and originally, we were up at 13.3 million for this year. >> reporter: magliano says, if consumers can't buy japanese small cars, they might opt for domestic ones instead. that could benefit general motors and ford, but probably not chrysler. >> the issue today with chrysler is that, of the detroit three, they have the biggest reliance on trucks and big cars, and they've really got to develop those small cars in order to really get the consumer into their dealerships. >> susie: diane eastabook joins us now with more about the outlook for the auto industry. diane, that was an interesting story about all of the changing trends that are going on. i know you've been out talking to a lot of the auto dealers. what are you hearing from them

. >> suzanne: honda predicts its u.s. and canadian plants will be almost back to normal production levels by august. that's sooner the automaker expected, thanks in part to a rebound by its parts suppliers. honda reduced its manufacturing following japan's earthquake and tsunami back in march, but production of its popular 2012 civic model will continue at a reduced rate due to limited supplies of some parts. last month, the civic was the third-best selling car in the u.s. market. >> tom: a fox in the then thousand, house that's what the justice department is calling the former director of the nasdaq. he faces up to 20 years in prison. johnson admitted to using his post in the exchange's market intelligence un to it gain inside information on nasdaq listed stocks. he made over $600,000 trading stocks on that information. >> suzanne: the field for tech i.p.o.s might soon get a bit crowded. after linked-in's spectacular debut last week, there are rumblings that zynga, the social gaming juggernaut, is planning to go public.

she's got a honda recall this morning. this could affect a lot of folks. >> not good news if you own a honda. they are recalling more vehicles after finding a defect to the driver's side air bags. they say 833,000 cars are affected. now, that is on top of a previous recall. it says faulty air bags may have been installed after they were fixed. vehicles recalled are the 2001 and 2002 accord and civic. it's listed on your screen now. also on the list are the 2002 odyssey minivan as well as the 2002 and 2003 crv and the 2002 and 2003 acura tl and cl models. honda says more than 2400 air bags were installed after crashes. it's not sure which cars got those air bags. >>> after months of complaints, pg&e is admitting there might be trouble with the smart meters. they are getting ready to replace 1600 smart meters because they inflated customers energy bills. it is a defect. they have a hard time working in high temperatures. they will offer refunds to people who received inaccurate bills. >>> san francisco's newest police chief
