she's live in pittsburg. jade. >> reporter: this shooting took place nearly 12 hours ago and yet the suspect's car right here still in the parking lot where the suspect driving ended up after a short chase involving a pittsburg police officer. this investigation as you can tell is not over yet despite a dramatic arrest. a pittsburg police officer noticed a car roll through a stop sign last night. the officer tried to pull the driver over and the suspect sped off. the short chase ended behind a wells fargo bank near the atlantic plaza shopping center here in pittsburg. what happened next authorities say pushed a 13 year veteran of the police force to open fire after the driver got out of his car and opened fire on the officer. the suspect then ran past west boulevard and mad lin street where police lost sight of him. until hours later a 27-year-old took off toward a fourplex, the home of an acquaintance. police finally coaxed him out of an attic where they found him suffering from a gunshot wound to the leg. t

the driver got out and began shooting at the pittsburg police officer. the officer a 13 year veteran of the police force fired back. that's when the suspect ran. he made it past west boulevard and mad lin street where police lost sight of him. police say the suspect, 27-year- old jones took off toward a fourplex, the home of an acquaintance. >> he was able to climb into the attic. he did have a cellular phone he had access to. our canine track did lead us to this location. we were able to make cellular contact. >> reporter: authorities took jones in to custody around 10:30 last night. he suffer add gunshot wound to his leg. no word on if the acquaintance will be charged. with the help of the contra costa sheriff's department, canine units and air support from several agencies they were able to arrest mr. jones. pittsburg police say the officer involved in the initial shootout suffered only minor injuries. amazing when you note eight shots hit his windshield and one bullet rested right by his headrest. what made the difference and kept that officer safe w

at 5:00 developing news in pittsburg right now. police investigating a shooting on the delta dean z trail. ktvu's jade hernandez just arrived there on scene. she's with us live now with the latest. >> reporter: good morning. within the last hour we've learned that the man shot along this trail is undergoing surgery right now. he was shot in the shoulder. his family called pittsburg police when they discovered what happened last night. pittsburg police have turned over this investigation to the east bay regional park police because the shooting took place on the trail which is park jurisdiction. this was the scene just about 20 minutes ago. we've been told by police this morning the young man shot said he was along the trail near crestview avenue around 11:30 last night when one of four men shot at him two or three times. only one of the four men, the victim said, had a gun. the victim would not say if he knew or had a connection with the suspect. but the victim does live in the neighborhood and near the trail. park police believe t

and this morning a paroled armed robber is back in custody accused of trying to kill a pittsburg police officer. 27-year-old die rel wayne jones of pittsburg surrendered last night four hours after he allegedly opened fire on the officer who tried to pull him over for running a stop sign. bullet holes on the officer's car show how close he came to being hit but his only injuries came from broken glass. the suspect ran away after crashing his car into a retaining wall and that led to a police search that kept people out of their neighborhood for hours. >> crazy. they have him coming out and going from house to house and searching. >> jones used his cell phone to negotiate with officers as he hid in a friend's attic. he was treated for a gunshot wound to the leg. he was apparently hit when the officer fired back. >>> 6:21. a brazen home invasion in the middle of the afternoon. how three robbers snuck in and an elderly woman's peninsula home. >> a daring thief caught on tape. how he got away with a student's pricey violin. promise me low prices. and stick to it. like seriously low prices.
