. >> we just learned from the school system the crossing guard's name is vicky whitehead. parents say they have entrusted her with theirs -- their children's safety for years. >> i looked out the door and i seen the ambulance over there. >> they found out what the commotion was about. around 7:40 a.m., a school bus hit a crossing guard near point pleasant elementary school. a preliminary investigation indicates the school bus came to a stop and made a left turn onto pernice avenue. that is when the bus struck the school crossing guard. >> she was drawn from the impact and taken to shock trauma. children witnessed the accident. school counselors were on hand to help them cope. >> it is an emotional thing. point pleasant is a close-knit school community where everybody knows everybody. it is an emotional day for them there. >> the school notified those parents and sent a letter home with other students. right now, it looks like the bus driver failed to yield to the crossing guard. the guard has been stationed at that corner for years. >> she was wonderful. she was nice to th
