we had d.c. fire, spokesperson here to tell us what happened. >> well, when firefighters arrived on the scene literally, the firehouse a block away. they had heavy fire conditions and smoke. they called for a precautionary second alarm. this is a pretty large building. it is very long as you look from the u street. pretty significant fire in the first level which is the wine store, upstairs is a dance studio, heavy damage. good thing is nobody was injured. nobody was in the building at the time but we did have about 75 firefighters out here. it was a second alarm. they made some pretty quick work of it. they were able to knock down the bulk of the fire. >> you guys were only a block away. >> all of our stations got here pretty quickly. we were here within moments but even so, when we arrived, we had heavy fire conditions. >> reporter: this is a popular area, popular business, the u street wine and beer. >> it is right in the middle of the u street corridor right at 114th and u. it is a popular ar

the d.c. council is considering a proposal that would license the district to distribute guns. that's according to the "washington examiner." under the plan, gun owners who want to bring guns into d.c. would have to have their guns shipped to government offices and get a stamp of approval to carry them within the district limits. right now there are no gun sellers in the district. the district council is reviewing the proposal next week. >>> it is now legal to pack heat in virginia state forests. the new regulation took effect this week. according to that law, it is now legal to carry guns openly into state forests. you may also carry a concealed weapon as long as you have a concealed handgun permit. >>> this morning a tragic reminder of just how important it is to be careful while going for a baseball at a baseball game. a fan in texas has died after falling out of the stands while trying to catch a ball. we have video of the incident, but we want to warn you, you may well find it very distur

d.c. councilman harry thomas is not commenting this morning on some questionable charges on a debit card in the name of a nonprofit organization he runs. the washington city paper just published the charges from the card in the name of team thomas. the group is supposed to introduce underprivileged kids to sports. those charges were made between 2007 and 2009. they include, $143 charges at hooters. $278 at jimmy buffett's margaritaville in myrtle beach. nearly $600 at a hotel in little rock, arkansas. and $160 at a steak house in little rock. this comes on the heels of d.c. attorney general irv nathan's civil lawsuit which claims thomas used $300,000 in city money as a personal expense account. thomas denies the accusations but has stepped down as chairman of the economic development committee pending an investigation. >>> one of harry thomas' colleagues will face tough questions today. the d.c. board of elections and ethics is holding a hearing in the d.c. council chair's kwame brown's ca
