many on board are from northern california, tonight's big story we hear from family members of those on board. >> traumatic. >> some of his friends are missing. it's something different. details on the search. >> these photos from the mexican navy show survivors being rescued. this man is rescued on a stretcher, others get medical attention. it was supposed to be a 7 day trip but came to an end a day after. you can see the men crammed together, and some bowing their heads. this is a picture of the vessel that sank after being hit by storm. it happened sunday morning in mexico after a storm. there were 30 tourists on board. and 16 crew members. according to the website, it has been on the gulf of california since 1989. passengers say the boat was less than two miles from shore when it tipped over. a resident said i am relieved i am alive. monday the u.s. coast guard in san diego sent a helicopter like this one after the mexican navy asked for assistance. crews haven't found anybody in the water. kron 4 news. >>> the why of one man talked about the ordeal that her husband went through.

they organize auctions all over northern california roughly once a month. tomorrow they'll be in sacramento. they'll be back in the bay area in late august. >>> hayward police identified the man found shot to death in his car yesterday. turns out he's the best friend of oscar grant, who was on the platform the night grant was killed by bart police officer johannes mehserle. john, what are you finding out? >> candles appeared here earlier today. in about an hour, there will be a gathering of some family and friends to pay their respects to the young man. caldwell was shot to death as he was sitting in his cadillac yesterday around 5:30 in the afternoon. police say somebody walked up, opened fire and ran away. authorities do not have a motive, but they say this was not a random attack. caldwell was 25 years old, lived in fremont, the best friend of oscar grant. in fact, caldwell was on the bart platform in ruled on that fateful new year's morning in 2009 when oscar grant was killed by mehserle. now those who knew caldwell are showing up to pay their respects

for missing fishermen from northern california. >>> the u.s. contra costa is sending help to mexico to search for the missing fishermen from northern california. courtney dempsey reports from sacramento where crews just took off. good morning. >> reporter: good morning. the crews actually just took off seconds ago. that's the air ship behind us where the c-130 just took off to go and help the mexican navy search a little more for these missing fishermen. yesterday they searched more than 500 miles and today they will scour hundreds more. those seven men went missing early sunday after their pot capsized during a -- their boat capsized during a fishing trip. there is a command center in a home in san ramon. the family calls it their war zone and they are using social networking to receive messages like facebook, twitter and a blog they call find our fathers. the coast guard went out for a third day today. they are planning to help the mexican navy search at least another 24 hours with the coast guard. the mexican navy says they will search indef

still no sign tonight of the 7 fishermen from northern california who disappeared when their charter boat sank off of the gulf of mexico. it was another day of searching by american coast guard and the mexican navy. they have covered 5,000 square miles. the pain for the survivors and the families of the men still missing. >> reporter: in the early morning hours last sunday a charter fishing boat cap sized. 40 people on the boat including fishermen from the bay area spoke of swimming for hours until day light. >> i was in the water 16 hours, and i was okay, so given this is the third day there still may be some hope. >> reporter: many clunk to ice chest as they swam two miles away. >> iest i was in the water between 9 and 10 hours. i saw these huge waves. some men accused the fishing boat crew of criminal negligence. >> the captain was a jack as. he had no idea what the heck he was doing out there. >> i tried to get on top, right when i get up on top i look and there is the whole crew with brand new life jackets on, and none of the passengers had anything. >> reporter: the coast guard

sign of northern california men still missing. it's a monday, good morning. i'm kristen sze. >>> another person has been shot along the de anza recreational trail after a fatal shooting just last week and a another one a couple months before. amy hollyfield is live at the scene. what happened. >> look carefully at this part of the trail. it's bordered by homes. it has homes on both sides of it. this shooting was not out on the wilderness part of the trail making it more dangerous. it's the second one in less than a week. this happened around midnight, just west of the railroad tracks. officials say the victim was alive when he was taken to the hospital but officers have not received an update on his condition. these officers are here to preserve the scene. investigators will be out here once the sun comes up. the officers out here can't say whether this was a random attack or gang activity but clearly have a problem on this trail. there was a shooting last week that looks like it was gang-related. the man who died had an extensive
