and giordano was still answering investigators' questions. but yet he started that process of trying to cash in on this policy. by some reports it was worth more than $1 million. giordano for his part remains locked up in prison here in aruba. prosecutors got another 16 days a couple days ago to try to gather more evidence. giordano was questioned by prosecutors yesterday at length with his attorneys present. there's also interesting information about items that have been seized from gary giordano, including his digital camera which by some accounts contained very graphic, disturbing images of robyn gardner. that camera along with his cell phone and his laptop have been sent off to a nearby island for further analysis. they're looking very closely now at the insurance policy. whether he had a financial motive back home. there are reports he lives in a million dollar house and that his small company took in less than $100,000 last year. that's something that u.s. officials are assisting with as this investigation continues. that is the latest

so a likely spot, they believe, for somebody to dump a body, and of course, giordano is a suspect in a -- in that, would be in the southern tip of the island. we met with the search teams out there, about 50 people fanning out, each separated by 12-15 feet, it's very rugged, desolate, not much out there. if there was going to be a spot on this island to dump a body, this is what they think would be the spot, a lot of cacti, thorns, and not too far away is the prison within which gary giordano sits. now, the police have a 2 1/2 hour window that leads them to certain areas of the island. that's because robin gardner and gary giordano were spotted three weeks ago on surveillance camera tape, outside of a bar at lodge cafe, about 4:00, at 6:30 p.m., giordano reports her missing, so there's really a limited amount of area and distance that he could go if, in fact, he did kill robin gardner and dumped her body and that's what really led to the focusing on this southern tip of the island. it's so far away from the hotels and the capitol city. but right now, the search is wrapping up, they h

it's evidence the police can now use to detain giordano on the island an additional 60 days while they try to solve this mystery. >> timing can be an important piece of evidence. if the person dies suspiciously soon after the policy was taken out, that's a clear red flag. >> reporter: law enforcement sources say giordano called the insurance company to confirm they received the policy that outlined him as a beneficiary. he also asked if the insurance would cover any search costs for gardner and sources say he tried to begin the process of redeeming the money. all while the search was ongoing for the still missing gardner. >> it's a huge red flag if you're an investigator, first of all, that somebody takes a policy out when they're not like a husband and wife, a close relative. >> reporter: a cnn report says giordano talked with aruban police about snorkeling with gardner when she disappeared in the water saying i only looked back when i hit a rock. before that i did not look back. i was only busy saving my life. and the search for robyn will continue monday this as the last man to see

abc says according to a police report giordano asked three people for help that day. witnesses say he was covered in sweat but was very calm and he had a cut on his throat. martin savidge has been covering all the twists and turns from the story since the beginning. he joins us live from aruba. abc news is reporting this information about giordano's throat having some sort of a cut on it. what have they found out? >> reporter: well, this is the first i've heard of that. and i've talked to a lot of witnesses. i've talked to a lot of people and i've read the police reports. i have to point out that during the interrogation of gary giordano authorities did ask him do you have any wounds on you? he said he had a couple of scratches on his legs and he showed it to them. regarding a cut on the neck, you can take a look for yourself. there's his mug shot that was released. that was taken just a couple of days after the alleged drowning. and if you look at it quite clearly he's got a t-shirt, his neck is exposed. i don't see any mark there. as far as the clothing, wet, dry. i

this could be a very big day for gary giordano. he could find out later if his month-long stay on this island paradise is going to come to an end. prosecutors, if they have have enough evidence, will keep him here for an additional 60 days. abc news have seen witness document, witness statements this time from robyn gardner's family. abc news has learned new details about the couple's relationship before their trip to aruba. a friend told investigators that robyn and giordano met about a year ago on adultfriendfinder, a site that describes itself as the world's largest sex and swinger personals community. she told authorities the two even planned to go on a cruise together earlier this year but that garden backed out because giordano as exhibiting scary behavior and the friend told authorities gardner refused her suggestions to cut fights with giordano and was surprised she decided to travel with him to aruba. abc news has also learned that aruban investigators searching this hotel room where gardner and giordano stayed found a bot

meanwhile, giordano is here in an aruban prison. they have two more weeks to hold him before they have to go back before a judge, and at that point they need more evidence to be able to justify holding him for 60 days in an effort to prepare their case. so that they can get more evidence they are launching a renewed search, a ground search next week, which will involve multiple agencies, and frankly they are looking for one thing, a body, because without, it they don't have much of a case. they have very little evidence linking gary giordano to any crime whatsoever. they don't know robyn gardner's whereabouts, and frankly even after a plea for witnesses, they haven't found many. there are little details coming out here about a rock with a hand print and blood on it near the site where robyn gardner was last seen, so there are a number of leads authorities are following but really looking very closely at this travel policy. richard, back to you. >> thanks so much for that. >>> now to a major development in the case of a missing misso

police say that man, gary giordano, took out an insurance policy on gardner. a bloody hand print was found on a stone where the couple had been snorkeling. marty, what details do you know about a bloody hand print on a stone where they were allegedly snorking? >> reporter: this is coming to us from a couple of different sources. when i talked to investigators directly about them finding blood evidence at the scene there, they said only that they couldn't confirm it. they couldn't deny it. they called it interesting which of course would be a lot more than interesting. it could be absolutely key to their investigation. sources we talked to close to that investigation say it was blood on the rocks or blood on stones and some said it was actually a bloody hand print. the reason this all works out is they need to know if it was human, is it robyn gardner's blood or someone unrelated. if he's telling a story that she's lost at sea in a snorkeling accident, that's not bloody. that would be a significant find for authorities but they have a lot to run down on that ye

giordano's behavior seemed erratic. he left the search early to get some sleep at his hotel. three days later giordano got within feet of leaving this island getting stopped at aruba's airport after passing all the way through security and u.s. customs where he inexplicably told people his travel companion was quote taking another flight. when police arrested him, they say he was drenched in sweat. that's not all. investigators tell us they had trouble i.d.'ing g grdano in surveillance video because he frequently changed his toupees. with a possible motive in hand, the search continues for robyn's body. we're at about 500 feet here. from this vantage, you can see how small the island really is. and you can also tell how rugged the terrain is. there are hills you didn't expect. seems like it's terrain that is extremely difficult to search. pilot greg malewski flew "gma" around the island and took us to the spot w wre natalee holloway and now robyn gardner went missing. >> the water is shallow. the water is calm. very safe place to swim. >> reporter: have you ever heard of anyb

investigators say that gary giordano is no longer cooperating with them, u.s. court documents know giordano has a criminal record, including two orders of protection taken out by women who claimed he was violent. joining us now is homicide detective rod wheeler. hi rod. >> good morning alisyn. alisyn: we've just learned today that prosecutors say that giordano is no longer cooperating with them and i'm curious, as an investigator, what do you do when the main witness clams up? >> i knew that was going to happen, al sip, because his attorney, giordano's attorney was on television yesterday talking about how this guy feels he's innocent and i said to myself, once he has an attorney he's going to clamp up, he's not going to say anything. so what does that mean to the police and investigators? that simply means they're going to have to continue to search for more clues, they're going to have to search for more evidence. now, i also just learned this morning, alisyn, fox five in d.c. is reporting that they're trying to get a search warrant for giordano's home. he li

giordano is listed as the beneficiary. according to the ap, giordano called about collecting on it two days after reporting gardner missing. >> travel insurance was taken out and we're investigating that material, seeing if there's relevance to the disappearance. >> reporter: gardner's estranged boyfriend can't believe she would voluntarily sign a travel policy. >> maybe if she was forced to, maybe if she was misinformed as to what it was. >> reporter: this and other new evidence helps explain why a judge monday sided with prosecutors, extending giordano's detention another 16 days as the investigation continues. authorities haven't confirmed it but "people" magazine is reporting explicit photos of gardner were found stored in giordano's camera. the last time they were seen together was at this restaurant. where she appeared woozy. he latat told police they were drinking vodka and she had taken sleeping pills. later that day he claims they went snorkeling and she was swept out to sea. >> he's tied himself to that story of
