ktvu kraig debro talked to a detective a short time ago. he's back now with new information. >> reporter: i did just speak with a detective about this shooting and the two others very limited information. this particular homicide happened at 9200 block of sunny side. it's a couple blocks west of mccarthur. the young man that was shot here was sitting inside on the back of the pickup truck. you can see the bullet holes right here. following the shooting the young man reason inside his gap mother's place. and then he was take ton the hospital where -- taken to the hospital where he later died. there have been 70 homicides so far this year in oakland. 52 last year. one of those from last year was actually his brother. his name is narion jackson. 16-year-old najon jackson died. just before midnight. he got a call from a girl and went outside. >> we were all in the house watching tv and we heard gunshots like real like boom boom. a lot of gunshots. and i just started screaming and saying najon is outside. >> reporter: he ran inside the house and

kraig debro tells us the victim wanted to be hit. >> reporter: good morning, pam. typically we don't cover suicides on our broadcast but this one turned out to be a felony here. if you take a look on the street, you can see the orange markings still out there. sprayed as part of the police investigation. they received several 911 calls last night around 9:00 when they arrived there, there was a man lying in the roadway. he was pronounced dead at the scene. after interviewing several people police decided this was a suicide. he laid down in the road and was hit by two vehicles. vehicles did not stop. that is why this is not just a suicide but a felony hit and run. >> first he was hit by two cars. vehicle descriptions we have is a small silver sedan and smaller suv. >> reporter: police closed the road for two hours while the on scene investigation was taking place. police are still trying to identify the suicide victim. he's a hispanic man in his 30s. there has been video tape taken from a shop around here not of the actual accident but one of the cars speeding away.

ktvu kraig debro joins us from the scene where a 16-year-old was killed. >> reporter: this is in the 9300 block of sunny side. a memorial has been here since this shooting happened. the young man's name is john jackson. he's 16 years old. there is a picture of him right there. the memorial has sprung up a few feet away from where he was shot. according to family members and witnesses he was shot in this pickup truck right here. you can see the evidence of that shooting right here. this was the beginning of a very deadly sequence of events. according to jackson's family he had just gotten home from playing basketball. it was his father's birthday just before midnight. gets a call from a female friend. he comes outside and just a few minutes later you hear gunfire. >> he came and jordan said he was hit. i thought he was playing at first. my other grandson lifted his shirt up and saw the bullet wound and then we sat him on the sew foe and called 911. >> reporter: john was taken to the hospital where he died a short time later. then around 3:pin the -- then around 3:00 in the morning a 2

kraig debro tells us the victim wanted to be hit. >> reporter: good morning, pam. police are look for the drivers of two vehicles in connection with this suicide. if that sounds a little strange wait until you hear why. the man ended upright out of the street here. he was killed when he was hit by two vehicles. the orange spray paint marks the spot. the body ended up on the 1800 block of elle camino drive. the drivers of a silver sedan and smaller sized suv are wanted in connection with this suicide. the drivers could be charged with felony hit and run. even though it appears this is an accident drivers are required by law to stay at the scene. police say the victim told people what he was doing to do. >> subsequent investigation reveals a number of witnesses had seen him in the area. he appeared to be intoxicated and approached a bystander that encouraged him to go home. said you had too much to drink and told him to go home. he didn't. he went and laid in the roadway. >> reporter: police says there appears to be skid marks where the body was marked. police have n

kraig debro has more on what b.a.r.t. officials are saying about the plans to, once again, shut down cell phone service. good morning, kraig. >> reporter: good morning, tori. right now, plans to shut down cell phone service is unsaid. it's up in the air over the weekend. b.a.r.t. released a letter justifying what it had done to shut down cell phone service. a protest is planned again this evening. just has justified shutting down cell phone service at four stations by helping preventing platform overcrowding and unsafe conditions for passengers. it may be all true, but the cell phones did not just get cut up for protesters, they got shut off for everything. last july, "anonymous" organized a protest for b.a.r.t., hoping to shut down the system because of a police- involved shooting. what it thought was a necessary step to top protesters and protect the public, a b.a.r.t. member says disrupting communications was justified since the tactics being used can lead to violence. >> regular inconveniences such as this that are a

kraig debro is here now. there is sad news about a woman rescued from a burning home. kraig. >> reporter: good morning, dave. i just got off the phone from the alameda coroner. station 20 is the fire house that responded to the fire around 9:00 p.m. last nighten it happened at 8910 burr street. firefighters arrived there. it took them 15-20 minutes to get the fire under control and/or knocked down as they like to say. the ambulance pulling away from the scene, that ambulance was carrying the woman who lived in the home away from the scene. she died later at a hospital when i called the coroners office to get their id they were not sure which hospital she went to. the cause of fire is under investigation at this point. i'm going to look into calling the fire department to see if they can narrow down the cause. glove compartment well many people will be watching close think this morning when the stock markets opens an hour from now. this is half the dow dropped more than 400 points yesterday. coming up at 5:45 we will have a live report from new york. >>> the stock marke

ktvu's kraig debro joins us now to explain what is happening in this case. >> reporter: at the santa clara county sheriff's office in san jose they have amman in custody for pointing fake gun at deputies. crime prosecutors processed the scene. the shooting happened around 9:10 last night and deputies stopped the pedestrian near stevens creek. while speaking with that person, the deputy noticed another person peering in the car. the deputy ran the plate and it was a stolen car. the deputy caught with him and ordered him to stop. quintet pointed a beebe gun, which they consider a fake gun at the deputy. >> he did point it towards the deputy. the deputy feared for his safety and fired a couple of shots towards the suspect. the suspect did end up getting hit with one of the bullets fired by the deputy. >> reporter: the suspect was treated for the wound and is in jail. deputies want to charge him with brandishing a fake weapon, resisting arrest and violating parole violation. they shut down a large section of stevens creek boulevard. deputies say they found another vehicle stolen vehicle

ktvu channel 2 reporter kraig debro is live at the school. what do we know about the area of the school that was damaged? >> reporter: heather, good morning. it's actually been described as the boys' and girls' locker room. there's a security guard here. he's telling us that it's a shed outside the locker room. i just went around and looked myself, initially he wasn't letting us, i talked him into letting us. what i saw was some debris outside a structure that he told me was a locker room. it happened over here. it says walters junior high school, it's on logan and freemont. firefighters got the call around 7:15 yesterday. about 20 firefighters came out, three engines, a truck company. they say they've had the fire put out in about a half hour. nobody was injured. school is not in session until the 31st, but there is an orientation going on at the school this week. so it's not as if nobody was here. there were some people milling around. i'm not sure that the orientation was taking place that late last night. we're waiting for yet another sec

ktvu kraig debro has been talking with family members to a family member and witnesses and joins us from the scene. >> reporter: thanks, pam. in talking to the cause of the nine-year-old boy he had ha cat scab and had no brain damage and expects the child to recover. according to the cousin of the nine-year-old -- they were crossing when it happened. the hit and run suspect is now in custody. police arrested him in hayward. it started at the intersection though. the cousin of the boy says the family was walking northbound. the driver was going eastbound. >> the nine-year-old was a little out ahead. i see to my right the guy come flying through a red light after dodging around a car that was waiting there and by the time i jumped back, he is hitting my cousin and knocking him into the car. >> reporter: he says his nine- year-old cousin was pinned briefly between the suspects vehicle and the parked vehicle. he didn't stop. one of our witnesses said the suspect turned around and started back up mission in the westbound direction. sfpd put on the be on the lookout for a white toyota suv. hay
