and i especially would like to say thank you to assembly men tom ammiano. thank you so much for being here today. it's an honor to see you. i'm very excited and extremely optimistic about all of the wonderful things that c.y.c. is going to be -- programs they're going to be putting forward along the third street quarter as well as bay view. i have one request, i hope we will be able to get language classes here, just basic classes. i see some of my community leaders in here, i say walton and vivian. wouldn't it be to see jackson on the mic saying ni hao ma. i think that would be wonderful for members in the community to be welcoming and this is the world -- the world is becoming smaller as we listen to the news and how technology connected us, and it's our humanism and it's our human compassion that connects us. and i'm looking forward to the culture exchange we will have, vivian. i will be looking for you to hold some dance classes here. i hope to see you next year -- doing the lion's dance next year. this is really the beginning of such a wonderful partne

i also want to thank then supervisor now assemblyperson tom ammiano for taking the lead and putting this into motion. as far as the acquisition question the supervisor avalos -- the acquisition question that supervisor avalos race, i think rather than waiting for los angeles county, what we're looking for, and speak for the community that is national, is that san francisco takes the lead on this. we have the opportunity to move forward, and we did not take that opportunity and went forward with sequoia, but as jody mentioned, the time is now because this question will come up -- this issue will come up very quickly. we do want to see the county move toward open source systems that have been previously demonstrated in 2008 by open voting consortium. that is a paper ballot printing system that issues mandatory paper ballots that are perfectly printed that avoid all voter intent issues. regarding the hardware, we can certainly work with los angeles county to put together a consortium and made it will purchase so that the hardware issue would be resolved as well as the software issue. we hav

i never thought that a candidate would be someone that i would support, but when tom and ammiano ran for mayor against willie brown, somehow, i got inspired. i thought, it someone that has integrity and honesty, that comes from the community, could run for mayor, maybe it is we something that can represent the community. i wanted to look at it from a candid perspective. >> when you did run for the border supervisors, what did you learn from that experience, from the campaign? >> from the campaign? so much. you knock on a lot of doors, talk to a lot of people. some of the things were interesting, how connected a lot of people were to their schools, communities. people were involved in their communities in some many ways. we have neighborhood organizations. there are so many people actively involved in the communities, neighborhoods, our organizations, child care facilities, relationships with seniors, at the park. that was something exciting to see. there were multiple ways for people to be involved as residents and members of the city. i was stunned by just how many artists were in d
