our peggy fox is back out there live tonight with an update on the situation. though shelves are looking better, peggy. >> yes, it's been very exciting as they are getting ready to restock a lot of things there. the activity back there, the kids are restocking the shelves. we've got a lot of volunteers today. and take a look at why they closed in the first place because of the shelves. there was a 50% increase in demand and they simply did not have the food to give out. it was a heartbreaking decision to close and they decided that they had to stay closed until november 1 to get their supplies replenished. but when people heard the news, we started reporting this information and people started coming in, and with bags and bags of food. and it has been very exciting today. but they need more than just the shelves filled. >> yeah, we go through this much in half a day. i mean, these boxes here, we go through that much in half a day sometimes. once it is gone, it really goes out there quickly. >> did you get them all filled? >> yes. >> we need everything, all thes

peggy fox has been covering the trial since it began and joins us with more now as it all unfolds, peggy? >> reporter: well, it took a jury of eight men and four women just six hours to convict carmela dela rosa, to find her guilty of first-degree murder. and now, the jury decided to sentence carmela dela rosa to not life, but 35 years in prison. the jury did not buy her insanity defense. her attorneys tried to prove that she did not know what she was doing, the night she threw her grandchild, 2 1/2-year-old off the 35-foot high sky bridge at the corner center, right if many front of the baby's mother and other family members last november. and now, a short time ago, family and friends, they left the courthouse, there were a lot of tears in the courtroom today. and no sense of victory. >> i thought the case was, you know, a difficult case for both sides, nothing really surprises me in the jury system. i'm disappointed. >> she was really mean and an angry person. they certainly played a role, but certainly it was not an excuse for killing a child. >> reporter: now, a judge will be reviewi

peggy fox joins us from the acts food pantry in dumfries virginia with more on the story. a happy story to tell peggy. >> reporter: the story is ask and you shall receive here at the acts food pantry in dumfries. on mondays the shelves were bare. they told the community about it. we helped them tell the community about it and take a look. they've gotten so many donations in that now the problem is they've got to figure out where to put it all. bright and early a huge truckload of food showed up from the capital area food bank with pallets of all kinds of food. after news of the pantry's temporary closure, the community responded big time. with more than 12,000 pounds of food and $60,000 in donations. >> it's pretty -- pretty mind blowing. it's -- it's amazing i mean one day everything's bare on the shelves. the next day it's -- i mean look at it. just crazy. >> reporter: the pantry can now open a week earlier than planned. tuesday at 1:00. >> on a regular tuesday we usually see over 100 families and i think we will far surpass that this tuesday which is a good thing. it wi
