hyrum lawrence remains in a coma. although tests show he may be brain dead, his parents are begging to keep him on life support a little bit longer. jodi hernandez joins us from oakland with this horrific situation. despite what doctors are saying, they feel he is being responsive? >> reporter: they certainly do, jessica. his parents say that he has moved and his blood pressure has shot up when his father enters the room. he had three bowel movements yesterday, and while the family takes that as hopeful signs, they say the doctors have basically told them there is no hope. now, his aunt tells me tonight that tests are being performed on the little baby's brain inside the hospital as we speak. she said the first test that was done today showed no life in the brain. but again, so far, that's something his parents refuse to accept. >> our main focus is my baby. that's nobody else's baby but mine and hyrum's. that's our focus. anything else, it doesn't matter right now. >> reporter: the mother of 23-month-old hyrum lawren

the mother of one-year-old hyrum lawrence emerged from children's hospital last night. her child remains in critical condition and he is says the family is at odds with medical staff over how to proceed with his care. >> unfortunately, we have come to a crossroads and we have -- and we are unable to agree on the continuance of care for baby hyrum. as a result, we are seeking support from patients rights attorneys. >> now to the family nor the hospital will discuss what the crossroads entail. meanwhile, oakland city leaders including mayor quan went door to door distributing fliers, asking for witnesses to come forward. >> i believe it was a cowardly and senseless act, and the only way we're going to stop this is the community says no. the mayor's presence means nothing. she's just walking around kicking up dust. >> police have not been able to identify the shooter seen in this video. but investigators say they have detained five persons of interest on unrelated charges. however, no arrests having been made yet. >>> the oakland police department is getting ready to hire

the family hopes the prayers will help hyrum lawrence, jr. live to see his second birthday on december 28th. he was among eight people injured when gunmen opened fire outside a west oakland liquor store monday night. hyrum was shot in the head while he was in his father's arms. >> he was conscious the whole time even in the hospital bed. he was saying da-da and crying. he's strong. >> the boy was held by his father moments after the shooting. the three gunmen are still on the loose, a 35,000 dollar reward offered for any information that leads to an arrest. >>> homicide investigators in san mateo county hope a trip to a cemetery will help them solve a mysterious cold case. yesterday they dug up an unmarked grave at that cemetery. authorities then removed the remains of an unidentified woman, 22 years after her body was found by a hiker in pacifica. investigators believe the young african-american woman was strangled somewhere else, then left near pacifica's oceana high school. officials now hope modern dna tests will provide new leads. >>> he
