milpitas police chased the suspect to a south san jose neighborhood near cast drive. these are live pictures from newschopper2 of the scene. you can see some police there. it looks like they -- they are hand kfing someone right now -- handcuffing someone right now. we're following the story. we have another information, the suspect apparently crashed the car around 8:30 this morning, got out of the car and fled on foot. he's been hiding ever since. police have shut down the neighborhood in the areas of seven trees boulevard and capitol expressway look for the suspect. it's believed he's armed with a handgun. he was driving a silver bmw. no injuries have been reported. ktvu's robert handa is at the scene now and joins us with more. so robert, were we just seeing the suspect being handcuffed, by chance? >> reporter: well, they were handcuffing somebody earlier who might have been assisting the suspect. so we're not sure if the video you saw is actually the suspect who was considered at-large a few minutes ago. we're in the area of seven trees in south san jose. as you c

the economic times here in san jose. but they are getting new in firefighters to help out in the front lines. along with the closure of this station. san jose had to lay off 49 firefighters. they were mostly new recruits. the department brought 22 of them back. the other firefighters found jobs elsewhere. now the department is able to hire more firefighters, nine today. the ceremony will begin at 3:00 at the training center. these are firefighters who transferred from other departments and had completed their modified economy. the new teams will be ready to hit the rigs and fight fires beginning on sunday. that means staffing levels will soon be back to what we had in san jose two years ago. some argued that's still not enough to meet the demands of a city the size of san jose. 18 more firefighters will go through a similar academy beginning in february. so thins are beginning to get back to normal. the hope is with attrition these firefighters will be able to stay on permanently. i'm damien trujillo, today in the bay. >

live in san jose, i'm damian trujillo. >> that affects us all. thank you so much, damian. >>> meanwhile, a new crop of cadettes will start training in oakland. >> haven't had a new class of recruits since layoffs last year. christie smith spoke to the mayor and chief of police. she joins us now with the latest. >> reporter: welcome back was the phrase we heard most often in this press conference that just wrapped up a couple of minutes ago. these potential officers were very close to become police officers, but then they were laid off. this is the first academy, as you said, to move through the city of oakland in more than a year. this is big news. they were slotted, some of them, to become oakland police officers before the layoffs occurred and had nearly completed all of their training. these officers are paid for with a $10 million federal grant that congresswoman barbara lee helped secure. in all, there will be 25 officers and it will allow other officers to be stationed in high-risk areas for murder and violence. but one official isn't sure

san jose police say that he was a cheerleading coach in east san jose. losa worked as a cheer coach. at the facility in san jose where the owner says he was never unsupervised. according to the arrest affidav affidavit, losa the alleged victim's coach at one of two places. according to the affidavit, admitted a physical relationship, kissing and sex. losa said he knew the victim was 14 and he loves him it just happened. >> 14-year-old cannot consent. we have laws to protect children. they're too young. they don't hatch the experience. not in a position yet in their lives where they can make informed decisions. >> now losa faces three felonies and misdemeanor and barred from any contact with the boy. in court the judge reduced the bail from $500,000 to $160 t but ordered hum nim not to be unsu r unsupervised with any minors. losa does not have much choice in that matter he was fired by the eastside union school district on tuesday. while losa its accused of violating the trust of one young person. others showed up along with his family to back him up. >>

it happened in east san jose. ktvu paul chambers was the first reporter on the scene and has information on what led up to the shooting. paul. >> reporter: good morning, pam. there is several officers out here on the scene. we are not allowed to get more information from them. it's basically happening here on waiverly and endman here in east san jose. just before 11:30 several officers responded to an incident involving an adult man. the man displayed what they called threatening behavior. one officer shot the man in self-defense. that man was take ton the area hospital where he later died. once again back out here live there is several officers out here. they say they will probably be out here for another hour or so. i tried to talk to the public information officer about it. the officers on the scene are not allowed to discuss this incident. we are at waiverly and endman. there is also the main truck out here. officers have been out here since 11:30. trying to figure out what went on. they gave us another addres
