from the city of san francisco, i grew up all over the city. i am here on behalf of local artists, and many that are underserved by a lot of the events that are thrown through of the city, in the sense that the local artists still have to scrounge in to be the concept of a struggling artist. the city of san francisco is known and by its creativity. imagine san francisco without creativity is like a child without creativity. this event is a great event that will help the many artists as to work with the youth guidance center. many are lacking opportunities. many are very creative and they don't have these types of opportunities with they can reach the world. i urge you to get on the good foot and really try to push forward us being able to give the youth opportunity as well as local artists. >> thank you for talking about this really important issue. i am the president of the san francisco arts democratic club. i have been living and working in the city with a lot of these folks over the years. this presents an opportunity to shine with our arts

today we are honoring our acting city administrator amy brown who is leaving the city and county of san francisco for a new position. amy is someone who i first met almost 10 years, maybe more when i was an aide to former supervisor hall when we were working on legislation for harding park. he was the deputy city attorney. over 10 years we have worked on a number of projects together. it has always struck me, the intelligence and integrity. i knew i was always getting a tremendous work product in that every angle had been taken a look at and most importantly, it was provided in an honest manner. selfishly, i am going to miss losing a district 7 resident of such great regard. a neighbor who i have joked with, she lives so close to me when my son was a newborn. she could have heard him crying in the middle of the night. you have just been truly a remarkable public servant. you are someone who i think a lot of city employees looked up to. not just those who work with you but those who observe you because of the standard of excellence with which you serve the city. there is no question that

the way the city colleges fund is through the state home. they get money back for their students, and we had a revenue- sharing agreement with them. the revenue that we got as we had several academy class is was significant. that was money that the general fund did not need to provide. the fact that we got money from city college meant that we go to the budget for that training costs. we're going to have to look to the general fund to augment and to supplement the budget that we currently have. that will be a big challenge and a big expense. finally, i think there are probably more challenges, but on the radar this year right now is america's cup. the first race begins in august. the chief is working very closely with the mayor's office of economic development and is working closely with the event organizers to come up with a staffing plan along with of words of 30 other law enforcement entities from the coast guard, the fbi, who knows who else. it is a huge undertaking. they anticipate the need for approximately 120 officers to provide secu
