maria spoke to george osborne about the impact it's having on his country's economy and what steps are being taken to resolve the fiscal stress. >> let me kick it off with some dismal numbers we saw at the end of 2011. what are you going to do to turn around this situation? >> well, that was obviously disappointing data, but not unexpected. in fact, our uk independent forecasting body had forecast contraction in the fall. we were expecting it. and we are suffering collateral damage from the eurozone, like many others. but of course, if you're in the uk, you're closer to the situation, and 40% of our exports are to the eurozone. i think the encouraging signs in the uk are inflation, it's falling quite sharply, which is good. because we've had high inflation in the uk relative to oerls. and if you look at the competition of gdp, it's very clear to see what's been affected, and that's the ebs port of manufactured goods to the eurozone. so we know what the problem is. obviously we can be part of the solution. but ultimately the eurozone have got to stand behind the currency. >> what would
