we have good bustlines in our richmond district. i'm always looking at creating more efficiencies and finding where the needs are. there have been some cuts over the years, so -- to bus lines, like along the outer richmond district area that have led many seniors without a bus route to get up the hill or to get down the hill to go either grocery shopping -- so we are looking at how the system might not be closely enough based on the needs of people like, especially seniors, or disabled people. there's also some bustlines that are less used in the richmond district that we are now working with the muni system to think about continuing but maybe reduce its frequency, but continue its access for many people that live in isolated parts of the city. i strongly support stronger youth discount passes and supporting the bus system so that younger people have strong access. we are trying to work with the school district right now and city agencies to ensure that young people get more support. we want them to be lifelong transit riders as wel

amy hollyfield is live at the richmond police department. it appears the victim was heading to class at a local community college. >> reporter: yeah he was with his sister. this was about 7:00 last night they were headed to class at contra costa college when he was shot. he was the passenger in the car. his sister was driving. it appears that a man fired into their car for no reason at all. the killer was running after a car, he was shooting at it then he gave up as that car sped away then he looked up, saw the man and his sister sitting in their car and shot at them. the sister drove away trying to escape, get out of there it was too late for her brother he had been fatally hit he died at the scene. the sister is okay. the victim has been identified as 22-year-old edwin martinez of richmond. police don't have a description of the shooter. he ran away, this was in the area of 22nd street and nevin. they are hoping if there are witnesses that someone will come forward and help them on this case. amy hollyfield, abc7 news. >>> city crews are k

. >>> richmond police are looking for the man who shot and kill a college student as he was on his way -- shot and killed a college student as he was on his way to class. >> reporter: he was with his sister. they were headed to class at contra costa college around 7:00 last night when he was shot. he was the passenger in the car. his sister was driving. they had just parked when it happened. it appears a man fired into their car for no reason at all. the killer was running after another car. he was shooting at it, but he gave up as the car sped away then he looked over and sought man and his sister sitting in the car and shot at them. the sister drove away trying to escape, trying go out of there, but too late for her brother he died in the car. his sister is okay.awk the victim has been identified as 22-year-old edwin martinez of;wr richmond. police don't have a description of the killer. the man ran away. this was in the area of 22nd street and nevin. they are hoping any witnesses will come forward and give them some information, give them the clues they need to find this guy. amy h

we are monitoring breaking news out of richmond. a fatal accident has shut down three lanes along the eastshore freeway. our reporter anne makovec just arrived on the scene and she is on the phone. hey, anne, what can you tell us. >> reporter: we're actually still stuck in traffic and we're in a lot of company because traffic right now on westbound 80 is moving very, very slowly. we're on the far left lane right now trying to move over. that's what everybody is trying to do. they are just basically going lane by lane opening the roadway up where that accident investigation is still going on right now. we did earlier pass the van that was involved in the accident. it looks look it was in rough shape and part of the back of the van was missing and from what we understand the coroner is on the way right now and that one person has died in this accident. don't know how long the freeway is going to be shut down. but my best advice is to avoid this area completely westbound 80 in between carlson and central avenue. >> okay, ann, thank you
