what was newt gingrich's message this last ten days? because for the life of me i haven't been able to figure it out. >> well, that's part of the reason why we didn't win in florida pause we got lost and drowned in a sea of negative advertising. numbers show 99% of the nominee ads and pac ads were negative. beginning riches were almost that high, 53% for some one, i can't remember what the subset was. the truth is that this campaign is going to be won or last going forward on like a basketball game, or tournament i should say the nba tournament on how the gingrich campaign readjusts to what they've seen here in florida from the romney campaign, and gets the message out what the contrast is, what's the difference between newt gingrich and mitt romney in real substance, like on economic issues, on the tax plan or on the ush us that rick santorum's raising, over romney care and obama care and why should you be nominating newt gingrich instead of mitt romney? that's really the bottom line question, because voters want as clearly demonstrate

how meaningful will this be for newt gingrich? >> well, i think, you know, in terms of coming in second place, especially in nevada, gingrich -- i think he's ruined his chances in nevada and his national momentum because of his speech last night. i think it really hurt him to come across so negative instead of just offering, he had a concise maybe couple of minutes on, you know, the future and ideas and the rest of the time is extremely negative, extremely down, you know, accusing mitt romney of negative tactics and just being very pessimistic and that really turns off voters. i think he took a second place finish and made it into a real sore loser issue. and especially he needs this momentum, especially going into other states like colorado, minnesota. and he's not even on the ballot in missouri. he's going to be out -- he's going to be without momentum, hoping to bring in southern states around super tuesday. >> okay, so he's not on the ballot in missouri because he missed the deadline. i was going to talk to a reporter from st.

newt gingrich, $13 million, rick santorum, $2 million. when you look at the overall trend lines, there doesn't seem to be the fiscal backing for rick santorum as well asover candidates including ron paul. why do you think it's hard to raise cash? i don't think it's har. we started behind the eight ball. we got a huge boost after iowa and then of course another boost as the process continued. as you mentioned, $4.2 million in just january alone. that's a pretty big number. we actually have $1.3 million of cash on hand as we speak right now. i love the argument, though, that mitt romney has all the money and all the infrastructure. i hear that consistently out of the campaign trail, actually in talking to some of the people on your panel today. and while money and infrastructure is important, it's not inspiring. that's not what's going to resonate behind. nobody's putting a bumper sticker on the bumper that says -- >> that might have been a slogan of mitt romney, money and infrastructure 2012. mark halparin has a question. >> i grew up on t

that newt gingrich came out. it was not a concession speech. it was absolutely treated like a victory speech for newt gingrich. he promised there are 46 states to go and he is in this to win this. he promises his supporters he's going to win the nomination as the most conservative candidate in this race in august. take a look at these fox news exit polling numbers. interesting data, romney, married women he got 51%. among seniors 51%. amongst self-identified republicans, 48%. gingrich had 30%, santorum 11% and paul 6%. this question -- who better understands the problems of the average american? here the spread is much closer. romney is still number one at 34% followed by gingrich at 27%, santorum, 19% and paul 12. florida obviously very important. it was the first really humongous state in the nation to hold a caucus or primary. in this state, unlike new hampshire and iowa, south carolina, the candidates couldn't meet everybody door to door. florida is too large. great ethnicity and much more reflective of the nation. this truly was a national

those voters are sticking with newt gingrich. for religion gingrich won born again christians narrowly by 3 points. romney won those that are not evangelical, born again christians. and in terms of electability there were a couple of questions. romney did well who wanted a winner against barack obama. two other quick categories. romney won 5 points but won women over 22 points. whether this goes to the question of newt gingrich's marriages i will let others speculate. it's hard not to wonder. ethnicity is really, really interesting. this is a state with a substantial latino population. 14 percent of primary voters are latinos. romney won them by 23 points. there is a question who has the best policy towards illegal immigrants? there are three opposites. apply for citizenship. stay of temporary workers, or deport people. three alternatives here. there was no difference in the votes for mitt romney in each of these three positions. which tells me immigration was not a decisive figure in this election. >> i noticed also, stu, one gr
