what more are we learning about the suspected motive of t.j. lane, the shooter in this? >> reporter: absolutely. along the line offense a bond or bail hearing that you would see in an adult court. what we are learning is that around the 8th grade, he began to change and change dramatically, kind of withdrawn and didn't hang out with as many people as he used to, kind of a bit dark. those were their words. they say they never suspected he could turn violent. they did not believe that was something that was happening. one girl said when she spoke with him just as late as last week he was very kind, very nice. they had a good conversation. there's real surprise lingering here after what he's accused of doing. i think it's important to point this out, we're talking to teenager who is have been through a horrific event. they are still in the heat of that and relating what they can. it's going to take some time, some realtime and real investigation before we have a real idea of a motive or what happened yesterday morning. >> what do we know about the conditions of the two othe

t.j. lane is 17 years old. there are very few people at this point who believe this process is going to remain a juvenile process. >> reporter: absolutely not. the judge addressed it a little bit in the hearing yesterday, saying that the prosecutor will have to just basically submit the paperwork to have a hearing on this. he's reserved a date for it. and the issue, of course, should this young man, t.j. lane, be looked at as an adult in the eyes of the court or a juvenile? prosecutor later in a press conference said that absolutely they're going to push forward for this. an ohio law allows for it. it's a very easy transition when you talk about the age. the closer an individual gets to the age of 18, the more easily it is that that person will go up to an adult court and face adult responsibilities. the seriousness of the crime is also factored in. you can't get more serious than this in a crime. he's 17 years old. i think it's a foregone conclusion that, by the end of his next court appearance, he will be an

there were family members, two aunts and a grandfather there for t.j. lane, and then t.j. lane himself. he came in, very sort of downcast wearing a brown shirt, black pants and very soft-spoken, very calm his demeanor as he answered the judge's questions. the issue did not come up solve about the charges. those will come later. at with pound the prosecutor goss up and described what happened. the first thing he pointed out, when t.j. lane was teenage into custody, he confessed to the police officer who arrested him. he said the young man admitted to having a gun and a knife, said he fired ten shots, and this was the key point he made, that he chose his victims randomly. now, as a result of that, the prosecutor says this clearly is not a case of reaction to bullies, and this is not a case revolving around drugs. it is, indeed, about a child, a young man, who has some very serious problems. wolf? >> what was his demeanor. they wouldn't let us show necessary images of the suspect t.j. lane, the judge was very specific, but you saw him. >> reporter: right. and we're going to b

he's identified as t.j. lane, a vocational student, who had been living with his grandmother and appeared to have some family problems even though he's described as well-liked by a number of the students that were there. it appears, and police are investigating the possibility lane apparently targeted a specific table, a specific group of boys who were in the cafeteria. one of them, a boy by the name of nate muller says they had been friends with lane and went their own separate ways, but the table he was aiming at, one of the boys appears to have been dating the ex-girlfriend of this t.j. lane. that is something that police are investigating. the school was immediately put on lock down. the school having prepared for this kind of tragedy, they were immediately put on lock down, doors were shut, children cowering in areas where they thought it would be safe. some of them locked themselves into closets as they were texting their parents. nate mullor was able to place a phone call and call police. that's when

we have learned more about the chardon high school shooting suspect t.j. lane. some students call him caring, calm and polite just moments before that shooting happened. yesterday, four students are hospitalized one student 16- year-old daniel parmertoran was killed and students say lane was unpopular and bullied because of his goth look. a look into the alleged shooter's family life shows it was disrupt ed by divorce and violence. his parents divorced in march 2002 and his father sentenced to four years in prison but released nine months in july of 20 03 and here's what some student had to say about lane. >> i sat in the seat in front of him and i rode the bus with him and his sister and he would talk and smile and not reefy -- really laugh but chuckled. yeah. and he seemed sweet. >> he was person that, like, wanted to hide himself and keep all his emotions in and he was doing what he wanted to do hiding his emotions and they built up and built up inside of him and came out in a way no one would expect a kid like t.j. to come out as. >> reporter: now it's impor

we're learning more about t.j. lane. that high school sophomore accused of that violent rampage here. he is reportedly in solitary confinement. schools here are closed today. just a matter of minutes ago, we have received word that another one of his victims has died, bringing the death toll to two. this morning, police and the fbi are reportedly poring over surveillance video showing the chaotic moments as 17-year-old t.j. lane allegedly pulled out a .22 caliber handgun at the chardon high cafeteria and opened fire. >> we have an active shooter at the high school. repeat, active gunshots at the high school. >> reporter: 16-year-old danny parmentor killed. three others seriously wounded. nate mueller was eating breakfast when shots were fired. >> we heard a loud pop, like a firecracker almost. he was standing above the table, pointing his gun. he took one more shot. >> reporter: mueller saw the flash of a handgun's mussel. a bullet grazed his ear. >> it was terror. everything just went tunnel vision. you see glances of y

lane, who is 17 years old, will stay on a 15-day hold. he will not be allowed to go back to his home. he was living with his grandparents before the attacks. his initial hearing is set for march 6th at 3:00 p.m. no official charges at this point. they will carry that out at the hearing date. there's been a request of the judge for juvenile records, if there are any pertaining to t.j. in the past. any problems he may have had. also learning a request about one of the victims in the shooting. those requests coming from all of the media outlets that have gathered in this small o'town. there will be a hearing to discuss that matter tomorrow afternoon. representatives of those media outlets that would like to have those released along with the state and defense attorneys being allowed to respond and say why they think some of those records, if they exist, should be blocked. so really procedural today as they went into the courtroom, but the first time we have seen the gunman in public since the attack yesterday morning. still a lot to go throu
