with me is corbin dates who was in the movie theater. also a forensic psychologist and co-director for the institute of behavioral sciences and law. thank you, dr. brennan. let's start with corbin dates. we have to go to dr. brennan now. what did you make of the picture we saw in the courtroom of james holmes. did he give you any indication he had a problem? >> well, chris, it's very difficult to tell from a picture. we don't know a lot about him. i haven't interviewed him. certainly the things that stand out, of course, is the red hair, which may be symbolic at the time police picked him up and the joker. and his eyes. right away looking at his eyes looks different from other pictures. we immediately suspect the possibility of some type of drug abuse. >> would he have access to drugs or be in withdrawal or what do you mean at this point? >> some drugs are long acting. certainly he may still be under the influence of some drug at a later date or may have been given drugs in jail to calm him down. if he has a major mental disorder he may

but the gunshots itself, maybe 15 to 20 minutes. >> corbin, thank you so much, sir. i appreciate your time. >> thank you. >> i want to bring in our justice correspondent pete williams who has, of course, been following this throughout the morning. i know you were listening there to the police chief in aurora county a short time ago. let's talk about what we know at this point about this 24-year-old gunman. what can you tell us? >> not much. he grew up in san diego. he went to high school there. came to colorado to study neuroscience in denver. came in last year and then just this year began the process, the school says, of withdrawing, but why we don't know. no record he's ever served in the military. he had been living in aurora, colorado. arrived at the theater with four guns. as you have heard the police chief describe it's not clear whether he used all four or just three of e four. i guess one of the strange and remarkable things about this is that as the police chief said he was just standing there behind the theater when he was arrested. he didn't make any atte

when i spoke with corbin last night, i asked him what it was like to be back at the scene of friday's tragedy. >> honestly, when i look at the building, i get really a blank feeling inside. it is kind of hard to look at it. i try not to think of the event that took place, because i am still seeing the flashbacks of the first thing i saw. >> you said you don't even like to look at it. you don't want to look over as pointing. >> i will look over, but it is giving me a very uncomfortable feeling. >> so you are so close that last night jennifer said last night that the gunman got very close to her, and didn't shoot her, but shot behind her, and you were right next to her? so what happened didn't you get shot? >> well, when the gunman came into the auditorium the first thing he did was to throw a canister into the audience which later we found out it was a toxic gas and after that went off and two seconds the gun started firing and i went to the ground. we stayed there and jennifer fell behind me, and we stayed there for probably a good ten seconds before we decided to crawl to the other s
