marla tellez is tracking the details all morning long. she joins us live, she has all of the latest details. >> the shooter has been identified as 24-year-old james holmes. right now the investigation is centering around his apartment in north aurora in colorado not far from the shooting scene where he told police he may have more explosives. we may have a live look, the apartment complex is right there in the center. we just had a closer look at this and i can tell that you fbi agents there are in a cherry picker at a top floor window. we suspect this is the shooter's specific apartment and they are using precaution as they search. in the complex has been evacuated. this is not far from the century 16 theater. you can see the chaos, this gentleman here is walking out with a police officer, clearly very much has quite a bit of blood on his striped shirt. this happened about 11:30 our time, 12:30 mountain time. the gunman opening fire during the start of the batman movie. witnesses tell police he threw at least one canister at the front of

marla tellez joins us live with an update on the investigation. good morning. >> reporter: good morning, laura and jon. this happened about seven hours ago but as you can see behind me, still very much an active scene. we see plenty of investigators and police officers making their way in and out of this home. this is on the 4100 block of hanford street, not far from 880 in union city. again, this happened last night, 10:20 p.m., a home invasion robbery gone very wrong. we understand according to police that three suspects forced their way inside this home, four people were home at the time. at that point some sort of altercation happened. and that's when a 62-year-old woman was shot, her adult son was also hurt by one of the suspects. this morning we cannot tell you the condition of the woman, police not releasing her condition. according to police her adult son is in the hospital with non-life threatening injuries so he is expected to survive. in the end police are telling us this morning that three people got away, they are asking for the publi

i want to check in with marla tellez. she's live at the lexington reservoir near los gatos with more on the first spare the air day of the summer. good morning. >> reporter: good morning. first i wanted to start off showing you the dry hills that surround the lexington reservoir. they are brown, they are dry which is a clear indication we need rain. this is a familiar sight around the bay area. also a familiar sight, that fog bank. we are familiar with the fog in the bay. this is expected to burn off, though, as you heard christina say, expected to reach the 90s, even the triple digits. first thing to think about is high fire danger. it's in effect. secondly, it is the first spare the air day of the summer. the bay area air quality management district issues a spare the air day when air quality is forecast to be unhealthy. meteorologist christina loren tells me the east bay is the only portion of the bay area where extreme unhealthy air. so keep that in mind today. still, all of us are encouraged to stay inside as much as

i'm marla tellez with the latest on the breaking news we're following out of colorado. if you are just joining us, a mass shooting at a movie theater in aurora has killed at least 14 people with as many as 50 others injured. a 24-year-old man is in custody. the police chief says he was heavily armed wearing a gas mask and had a rifle and at least two more weapons. he also alluded to having more explosives at his apartment. we got new video in to the newsroom of the apartment complex. s.w.a.t. teams have it surrounded. it has been evacuated. i've been watching this investigation and have seen one man as you can see here propped on top of an armored vehicle with a pole reaching up to a top floor window, clearly they are searching for more explosives inside his apartment. back at the scene of the shooting. it happened at a century 16 theater at a mall in aurora. actually inside the theater during a midnight showing of the new batman movie. i'll be monitoring this story from the newsroom and also bringing you updates throughout the morning. >> thank you very much. a fluid s

i'm marla tellez. >> good morning, everybody. i'm jon kelley. we have breaking news to tell you about out of the east bay. a gravel spill right now affecting southbound mike is here with latest. >>> 880 southbound, like jon said, at broadway. word of a gravel spill earlier this morning, didn't sound like a big deal. it's covering three lanes now. chp says all southbound lanes are stopped at broadway. that means you have an alternate, though, if you're coming off the bay bridge or out of the east shore freeway out of the berkeley area. you can take 580 away and take 90 back down to 880, connecting you back onto the roadway there. there's also the fact that the traffic will be allowed on 580 for big rigs. that's going to change things up a little bit as far as the flow coming off of the maze and it may add to congestion out of oakland. southbound 8 l 80 closed at broadway because of a gravel spill. the sweeper should arrive soon. we'll bring you significant updates as they come in. >> thank you very much. >>> we are following developing news this
