the wicked weather is moving west to the eastern caribbean sea. the 45 miles per hour-winds have been reported in some areas as the storm system moves through the islands and warnings are in affect for puerto rico and the u.s. virgin islands. the west coast of florida is in the danger zone. the weather team is tracking the storm and let's go to sue palka in the weather center. sue? >> reporter: can you see here behind me, the center of the circulation is not very organized and that is about 180 miles south-southwest of san juan. puerto rico, will get two to four inches of rain and some wind. wins at 40 miles an hour and that is a good thing. it's not strengthening yet and it's weaker than yesterday and that is beginning to turn to the west-northwest and moving about 16 miles an hour. we do still think it's going to get stronger. i am sorry is to to so this is going to take it over haiti tomorrow evening and we're concerned about that. there could be as much as eight to 12 inches of rain in haiti and. >> 400,000 people still displaced from the 2010

moving across into the eastern caribbean sea, then is going to be moving towards the south of puerto rico, and beyond that, cuba. it doesn't look like it is going to be missing anybody out on its path. unfortunately this one is also going to be, becoming a more severe system, a hurricane status is likely by thursday. at the moment, the wind gusts are 83 kilometers an hour. sustained wind at 65. and for parts of the lesser antilles, you should expect anything, 100 to 200 millimeters of rain in the next 24 hours. okay. let's go now to europe. extreme high temperatures have been -- continuing since the weekend, across much of southern and central europe. now, we are seeing some, really severe thunderstorms, erupting across germany. it's because we have seasonal cooler ear air colliding with t surge of heat from the south. creating an unstable environment altogether. temperatures are going to continue to sizzle across much of central and eastern europe for the next couple days. should be getting better for you out toward the west. here is your extended forecast now. ♪ ♪ >>> that's al

it almost stretches across the entire caribbean sea. you see the black and purple, that's strong thunderstorm activity. here is the deal. puerto rico is done with the warnings. tropical storm warnings cover haiti. there are no hurricane warnings out. they're expecting winds of 30-50 miles an hour. here is the track. it hasn't changed much. if it takes this track, they're not going to have any problems at the convention. remember, the convention can sustain winds of 96 miles an hour. if it were to be there, winds are only 80. that's sustained winds, yes. gusts would be on the higher end of that. but still well away from shore. it's too early to discount it completely, but historically most of the storms that slam into tampa either come from the gulf of mexico and move northeast ward or they clip western cuba and come in between cuba and cancun and move up. rarely do they get a direct hit from a storm over eastern cuba. we'll talk when the weekend. stay tuned. >>> and roaches across from tyson's galleria. >> okay. coming up, our investiga

now into the caribbean sea. it's a very weak system. the question is, how much will it intensify once they storms get into the caribbean, pretty much surrounded by land and very warm water. if this system does remain over the warm water of the western caribbean and head for the gulf of mexico, we could expect a much stronger storm than it is right now. notice the northern fringe of the cone of uncertainty. it could be all the way up here on wednesday or all the way down there. that middle point is where the hurricane center sort of puts it -- their estimation for five days in advance. if it heads for the u.s., it will be some time on friday or maybe saturday that we'll have to worry about it, anywhere from texas to florida, not ruling anybody out yet. forecast for the weekend, we are watching today a cold front finally coming to the northern plains, sparking strong thunderstorms all weekend long. today in the dakotas and minnesota. saturday, strong thunderstorms will move down through the great lakes and towards kansas city. but i tell

i'm a server at red lobster and i sea food differently. >>> developing now, we've got a new update on tropical storm isaac barreling through the caribbean, and still with the potential to impact the republican national convention in tampa next week. nbc meteorologist bill karins has the storm track. bill, what is going on? >> good morning, chris. it does look like this storm will get its act together and head somewhere to the united states. the big million dollar question is at what intensity? we'll get rain and wind, but the path actually improved. first things first, a look at the storm currently just south of the virgin islands and puerto rico. it's trying to flare up. here's the forecast path from the hurricane center. we are watching over the next five days the storm tracking towards florida, has to go over a lot of lands, and that's why we're thinking that what the state of the storm is come sunday night and monday will term exactly what the impacts will be. our forecast models, excellent agreement. you usually don't see this much agreement five days in advance. you know they al
