jason brooks is here now, tell us all about it. >> it is hard to top willie and the godfather trilogy put the job market is looking a little bit better this morning. the labor department is reporting a net gain of 163,000 jobs in july, far better than expected. also doubling the monthly gains we saw over the previous few months. earlier this year we had solid gains of around a quarter million over the winter so the average gains this year about 150,000 per month. still not enough to chew into the higher ranks of the unemployed. unemployment actually increased little bit higher. despite the travails of social media companies like facebook, seeing stocks hit record lows, there are some firms that are doing very well. yelp proved that with strong earnings, its shares jumped 17% higher. linked in is doing well and it san francisco reservation specialist open table is also pleasing wall street. also on word that spain may actually ask for some bailout money. the dow is up 187 points back over 13,000. nasdaq is up 40 and s and p is up. link in is up almost 14 percent now. open table is gain

jason brooks, what you think? >> a mixed bag of economic information's out there this morning. none of the terrible but none of it great. we have only seen slight growth over the summer and that is reflected in the weekly unemployment claims. the labor department says first-time claims were unchanged although the prior week was revised higher. the four week average at just over 370,000 is just nudging into territory suggesting some growth. consumer confidence hit a nine month low of this past month but spending is up a half percent last month and in time is up 0.3%. we're getting indications of august has gone pretty well. the gap reports that among its three chains combined sales were up 9% which nearly doubled. gap shares are moving a bit higher this morning. the market is moving lower. it is all about ben bernanke tomorrow and rising doubts as to whether it will be coming around the corner. shares of the gap are up 3% off the same store sales report. >> we had a gorgeous day yesterday but what about today. >> it looks like changes are in the works. beginning to see some low

jason brooks is here from money watch and it is all about ample >> the news keeps getting better for shareholders. yesterday's stock closed at an all-time high end in the process absolutely obliterated the prior record for a public company that was held by microsoft. apple closed at $623 billion in change, about $7 billion more than it was worth in 1999. usually apple stock does get a huge bump before a big product rollout. we expect to see the iphone 5 sometime next month. facebook, a different story. one of its key earlier investors revealed yesterday that he sold 20.5 million shares of its private stock in the first expiration of the lockup from the ipo and that netted him $400 million after his $500,000 investment several years ago. some are worried about the timing of this with facebook stop falling. this is something he worked out prior to the ipo and facebook had expected that most of the shares will be bought by other investors on the retail level. the stock market is off to a positive start. apple shares are heading higher up another 1%. the market cap is now worth $632 bill
