good morning, kristin. >> reporter: good morning. the big question this morning is still motive. why would a 28-year-old walk into the lobby of the family research council and just open fire, shooting the security guard? both the f.b.i. and d.c. police say that is all still part of this ongoing investigation. it's an investigation that started here yesterday morning when this all happened around 10:45 and continued very late until the night up in herndon which is where this alleged gunman is believed to have lived. f.b.i. agents took several hours yesterday searching for clues at the suspect's home. his name floyd lee corkins. from what we've been able to dig up, he doesn't seem to have too much of a criminal history but he did volunteer at the d.c. center for the lgbt community for the last six months. that's very important because the family research council is well known for being very conservative, very against same- sex marriage. neighbors describe the family as being nice, good neighbors, low key, but they didn't seem to know too much about the suspected gunman himself. >>

kristin. >> reporter: good morning. this historic downtown normally so quiet at 6:00 in the morning is just full of activity because just beyond these barricades cleanup crews have been working through the night to try to clear all 21 of those overturned rail cars and the coal that spilled out from inside of them. n.t.s.b. investigators say it's that coal that killed these two teenage girls. they were hutly buried -- literally buried underneath all of that coal as it spilled out from the overturned rail cars. the two girls are identified as rose mayr and elizabeth nass. they were just sitting on the bridge a few feet from the tracks when the train rolled through ellicott city just around midnight yesterday. minutes earlier, and this is really sort of the chilling part, these two teens had posted pictures on their twitter accounts of what appears to be their view from the bridge 20 feet over main street. one twitter post suggests the two may have been drinking. they were just ending to school but the loss of elizabeth is

good morning, kristin. >> reporter: good morning. by the end of today we could be one big step closer to getting a new casino right here at national harbor. maryland's house of delegates will be voting this afternoon on the bill that you were just talking about. what it would do is not only approve this new site but legalize table games like blackjack, roulette. this all comes after yesterday's marathon committee meeting. last night after hours of debate, the house, ways and means committee voted 13-7 to expand this gambling bill. the holdup? why did it take so long? amendments. specifically i'm talking about amendments regarding tax breaks for maryland live. that's the new casino in anne arundel county and that planned casino up in bat baltimore. there's been a lot of -- up in bat more. there's been a lot of concern that a new casino here would take too much business away from the other casinos in the state. legislators are trying to offset the impact this future casino could potentially have. in the end the committee voted to appro

what are police saying now, kristin? we haven't heard much in the way of details so far. >> reporter: not too much more from prince george's county police, but i am getting a lot more information from neighbors as they start to wake up and realize what's happened in their neighborhood this morning. what we're hearing is that prince george's county police are investigating this as a possible home invasion. but neighbors say they never heard any gunshots. one neighbor reported hearing some banging on the door and another neighbor says that the 17-year-old girl that was killed, her older sister and that sister's 4-year-old son escaped from an open window inside this home. so more and more it's sounding like a person or persons came to this home, somehow got inside and that's where they shot and killed this 17-year- old girl. but that is just a theory that's coming from neighbors. it is not confirmed by prince george's county police. here's what the prince george's county police spokesman had to say about what happened here

kristin fisher is there with a live update. chris continue, what more do we know about this kill -- kristin, what more do we know about this killing? >> reporter: this is the home where this 17-yard girl's body was found right around 11:00 last night. right now prince george's county police say they have no suspects, no motive. all they will say is they are investigating this as a possible home invasion. this is still a pretty active police scene here but i tell you what, just moments ago a truly heartbreaking scene to see. this 17-yard girl's body was -- 17-year-old girl's body was brought out, put in the coroner's van and standing watching the whole thing, the girl's mother. just incredibly difficult to watch. you can only imagine what she's going through right now. neighbors tell me the 17-year- old girl was hoping -- she aspired to go to harvard university. she was clearly a bright young girl and just a tragedy here this morning as prince george's county police try to figure out what happened. the call came in around 10:20

kristin fisher joins us from the scene with more information. kristin? >> reporter: jc, the two bodies were found inside an apartment building just up the street. right now arlington county police are classifying these as suspicious deaths, not homicides but that could change. this investigation is still in its very preliminary stages. joining me now is arlington county police public information officer dustin sturback. i know you've only been on the scene approximately two hours but what do we know? >> the initial 911 call was received by a maintenance worker who discovered the bodies and reported it to the dispatch center. the arlington county police department is in the beginning stages of the investigation of to suspicious deaths in the 1900 block of north culpeper street in arlington county. >> reporter: i know you can't identify the victims but what do we know about the victims at this point? >> two adult black males. that's all we can release. >> reporter: roughly age range or can we not say at that point? >> i don't want to give a rough age range

kristin fisher is live at the scene with more. goodorning, kristin. >> reporter: good morning. it's been just over 24 hours since this deadly train derailment. you can see that main street in ellicott city is still closed. it's going to stay that way for several days because this cleanup is expected to take such a long time. cleanup crews worked through the night to clean up the overturned rail cars. they're also trying to clean out all the coal that spilled out that was inside of those rail cars. that cleanup is expected to take severadays as is this ongoing ntsb investigation. what we know as of this morning is that 21 out of 80 rail cars overturned right around midnight yesterday. this derailment crushed cars, damaged parts of downtown, spilled coal everywhere and killed two teenage girls sitting on a bridge right near the tracks. the big question has been did their presence near the tracks le the conductor to possibly slam on on the brakes causing the train to derail. as of right now n.t.s.b. investigators will only say it was a ruptured airline that caused an automatic bra
