lowell melser has the latest from the scene. >> good afternoon. csx crews continue to work at this hour. basically bulldozing coal and repling sections of a train track brought in. four sections each. the ntsb calling this operation to a well orchestrated, industrial ballet. they have to deal with each car one piece at a time and make sure not to damage all the civil war history. so far, the ntsb tells us 18 of 21 cars have been removed. locomotives have since been released back to csx. they say the investigation as far as what happened it will take quite some time. >> there is focus on every aspect. we are still looking at signal systems and operations. we are looking at the track, absolutely. we are still looking at the mechanical aspects, equipment, downloaded information. it takes quite a bit of time bending the accident happens in a matter of seconds but the investigation is very lengthy and thoreau. >> the ntsb says it still could not say whether the two women killed in the train derailment had anything to do with the actual train derailment

. >> lowell melser spoke with some of the families. >> this was the scene out here earlier today. all along ebenezer road, this street was lined with cars and panicked parents running down it cord perry hall high school. to my left here, we spoke earlier with some of the parents and kids that are coming out of the school, some who witnessed what happened. a very traumatic scene. >> how do you send an ninth grader back to school in the first day of school there was a shooting? >> i don't want to go back. >> we were in class and mr. arnold came of the intercom and said code red, and he was not joking. we are all scared. they made us go in the quarter and crouched down. we had to sit there for probably close to an hour and be quiet. no one knew what was going on. a couple of my friends heard a gunshot, and that was scary. once the cops came in to let us go, they were all dressed up in their uniforms and they had automatic guns and everything. it was weird. >> first i heard a pop. i thought it was a prank, then i looked around and saw the gun. we jumped under a table. someone got shot

we begin with lowell melser of live at the scene. >> as you can imagine, this is an active scene, and will remain so for quite some time. to let you know where we are, this accident just happened off of main street. i am counting 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 coal cars on the side here. in the front, locomotives, where we saw engineers looking over those. 21 cars in all unfortunate. , there were two victims of the crash, and they have been identified as 19-year-old elizabeth nass, a student at jmu, and rose mayr, a student at the university of delaware did invest a ghost don't know what they were doing by the tracks, and if they were -- investigators don't know what they were doing by the tracks, and if they were hit by the train. the train derailed as it came to an elected city in the main street area. 2130 cars came off the track and some of them fell 20 feet off of a bridge. one neighbor described the horrifying scene as it unfolded. >> i was sound asleep in my bedroom, which faces the railroad tracks but i heard this tremendous noise. it really frightened me.
