sparkles stars former american idol winner jordan sparks and the late whitney houston. this was her final performance. >> well, not that we knew at the time the movie was done. this movie is almost heartbreaking because this was a labor of love for the late whitney houston. since she saw the movie as a young child she wanted to do this movie. when she started working as a producer she wanted to play sparkle. as the tide turns, you get older so you end up playing spark's -- sparkle's mom. it was dubbed as her comeback. she hasn't been in a major motion picture since 1996. this was supposed to be her big comeback. her fans were expecting it. she was supposed to sing in the movie. the movie is supposed to be updated so instead of harlem in 18960s it's detroit in the 1960's. instead of playing a single mom, she plays a single mom who's actually successful and jordin sparks plays sparkle. >> but -- this was her dream come true and the song is one of the highlights of the movie, whitney houston's song. >> absolutely. you can hear her singing through it. although it's not the
