we had the state of hawaii was also able to process over 300 patients through their patient tracking system. so the hospitals were able to use the patients, actually the medical staff from their area hospitals to provide the number of patients that went to each hospital and that provided each hospital's own casualty scenario. again you see some of these pictures here, the military preparing these civilian patients for transfer. we even went as far as evacuating patients to maui the busses down there are the state of hawaii's bus evacuation system which are also used in evacuation. so this convenient tue, this vignette of hadr disaster exercise for hawaii also allowed us the opportunity for testing technology for that information sharing and interoperatability. apm was an online collaboration where we were able to share information and learn how to communicate with each other. one of the things that we realized is we have a problem with interchange of information where we actually are able to share that. and that was one opportunity that we were able to do that. quick net also partici

these are off the coast of hawaii. you see all of these high rises there, all of the hotels and the condominiums, and folks there are being asked to evacuate to higher elevation and some do include just evacuate to go a high rise if you can get yourself above the third floor, then obviously that with be preferred. outside of that there have been several evacuation centers that have been set up. one of them in oahu is an army barracks. we were talking to our nbc news producer olivia santini who has been vacationing in oahu. her vacation has hit a bump in the road. she is actually there in one of those hotel high rises and joins us by phone. olivia, are you with us. >> i am. >> so what is going through your had head? the waves look relatively calm but i'm sure folks are still on edge. >> sure. i think probably for most visitors and tourists there's a little bit more anxiety just not knowing what the situation is. there wasn't a lot of information coming out. they couldn't tell us what to expect in terms of waves. they th

so people in hawaii on the move. the tsunami was generated by a magnitude 7.7 earthquake off western canada. and you are looking at a live look right now from hawaii. traffic is heavy, as you see on some of the main roadways as people try to make it out of the lower lying areas, into the evacuation areas and up into higher ground. some people can also do what's called a vertical evacuation. just get to a higher floor on a building, a hotel, say, for example. other people do need to get in that traffic and get out of the way. in addition, a tsunami advisory which is less serious than a warning has been issued for northern california and southern oregon. the main focus right now is right there. on hawaii. where a tsunami warning is in place. less than 90 minutes from now. a succession of waves is expected to hit. let's get more on this. what's the latest? >> we know that this tsunami warning was generated from that 7.7 magnitude earthquake just off the coast of british columbia. just about the central coast. but it was

how much longer should they be nervous in hawaii? >> good news, dan, is they did everything right here. 7.7 off the western coast of canada, and nothing but open water between it and hawaii. the plate lying underneath it. it creates a wave. in this case, they thought it was four waves. as we have been counting them. they have the tsunami warning center. all of these buoys that are between that coastline and hawaii, they're able to monitor the lift in that water. buoy, as the water comes up, the sensor knows how high wave that is. these waves could have been ablgt-foot waves. the good news is, we have kind of seen those waves move through. more than one. in this case, they're able to see, we feel pretty good about it. if there's not any more activity, people can relax now. and move toward the coastline. but the very good news here, they did everything right. they set off the warnings as soon as there were a 7 or above. at a 7, you still want people to be prepared. you don't know if those waves are going to pile up on each other. dan a

what do people in hawaii need to do right now? >> they need to, if they are in the evacuation surge, they need to pack up and move out. if they are outside the evacuation zone they are fine. this -- so, you know, we don't want more people moving than have to move. >> in other words, if you know you are in an evacuation zone in hawaii, you know it because you live in the area, you can check on the internet, you are aware of where the zones are? >> the maps are in the phone book also. >> thank you. 3 hours from now, the wave is expected to arrive in hawaii, correct? >> yes, the first wave, it's less than that now, going to be 10:28 hawaii time, which is, what is that? that's -- oh, i'm sorry. i'm not good at converting time zones. anyway, 10:28 local time, which is like two hours and 50 minutes from now. >> so a little less than three hours, now, i know it's hard, we are on the fly here. >> and the other thing, it's not just one wave, it's a succession of waves and the shoreline will be dangerous for several hours. so -- >> what par
