now a 58 mile-per-hour wind with isabel in september of '03. we had the blizzard and isabel in '03. 75 mile-per-hour winds with the derecho a while ago. now sandy so far has a 55 mile- per-hour wind gust. so she's closing in on isabel and i think this is going to probably go above 65 miles per hour. don't think it will make hazel, but it looks like it could be our second highest wind gust recorded. that's saying something. look at the wind, essentially northwest, gaithersburg, d.c., manassas, a 52 mile-per-hour wind gust now in winchester and martinsburg and leesburg. we're looking at a 49 mile-per- hour wind gust at patuxent river. winds are getting dangerously high everywhere. temperatures 40 to 50. these temperatures will keep going down. some of the burbs will be in the 30s tonight, 46 in leesburg now and gaithersburg, 50 downtown and upper 40s into southern maryland. the latest radar will show this last the band of rain rolling through. we've upped our rainfall amounts a bit. this is hammering the entire metro area up 95, also into souther

part of this was washed away during hurricane isabel back in 2003. there's a big beach renourishment project that they spent here, $30 million, they're waiting to see if sandy washes those tax dollars away, as well. one of the things here in the carolinas will be the fact that we have onshore winds for a long period of time. we're going to be seeing rain later today. deteriorating conditions overnight, as sandy makes its way up the coast toward you. and then, persistent onshore winds will be bringing coastal flooding, power outages, and the like. just to give you some perspective, last year, during irene, large sections of roads were washed away here in north carolina. power was knocked out to about half a million people, and seven people died. so, even -- and that was a low-end storm. i wouldn't really read in to much to the fact that this is a tropical storm or a low-end hurricane. either way the effects are going to be devastating and now is the time when people really do need to prepare, alex. >> i'm glad you're putting that reminder out there. i

isabel came from the south. this one will come from the east little different skew but still the wind and the rain and all those other elements, pretty intense storm, it looks like is coming our way and as we get closer, it's harder to avoid the fact that it's coming. the rains are already up to cape hatteras. clouds, we're seeing high, thin clouds in our area already and we have that cold front to the west. now, how much rain do we get from this thing when it comes in? it looks like the hot spot will be late monday into early tuesday, pre-dawn hours. here are the latest estimates, the computer model we use in-house and it shows the rain coming in. the shades of yellow -- red changing to yellow are in the five to 10 inch range or seven to 10 inch range and hard yellows, south and east of baltimore, that's over 10 inches rain with this storm, not unusual with the way the storm is behaving and the amount of time it takes to go through. it's a long siege, not just in and out in six hours or anything like that. we'l
