north to northwest, so that will push in the water at kent island. we have a high tide in kent island this evening going into between 6 to 8:00 already. bay surge has been running between 1 to 2 feet above the mean lower water level. so just know that already, we're above average, and we're going to continue this push of water heading into the eastern part of the bay as we go into this evening. these are peak wind gusts thus far. kent island clock at 60 mile per hour wind gusts, chesapeake beach at 46, and then you go out towards ocean city at 60 mile per hour wind gusts. this is the wind over the eastern shore right now is what's going to be coming through the state.

this morning he is on kent island. what is the damage? >> reporter: well, we have not seen a lot of trees being ripped out by the winds. the winds have not become strong enough to to that. but we're seeing flooding. certain neighborhoods are having issues. where entire front yards are just filled with water. we have seen the parking lots and low lying areas filled with water this morning. at this point it appears most of the canals and the areas around the bay haven't quite reached their banks. but they were on the brink of that last night when we checked some of those out. a lot of people are on edge. a lot of people are anxious and hoping that the recent stops. guys this morning the wind continues. the rain continues out here. a lot of people are taking their cars where they live in the low lying areas, near the canals and moved them to higher areas. so, when you drive through the neighborhoods, we're seeing higher areas where 10 to 15 cars are parked in an effort for people to keep their cars out of harms way incase they start getting

and connor is spending the night on kent island. they have problems from the wind there. >> so many problems that first responders are having problems getting on the road. >> reporter: we want to bring you an update from kent island, we are seeing the worst of it right now. wind speeds are recorded at 80 miles per hour over the bay bridge. the bridge is shut down now for several hours. the conditions have certainly worsened throughout the day. one big point update is all emergency operations here in queen ann's county are suspended. unless it is a dire situation the firefighters will not go out there. that is another reason to stay put and do not think about going out in the storm overnight. certainly, really treacherous situation, you can see the wind and pan down to the road and see the rain whipping across the road and up to the light. it is probably the worst we've seen it all day and it will continue to get bad. we'll keep you posted from kent island as we go throughout the night. >> wow. that is the worst we've seen all night.

kent island, watching the next high tide cycle at 7:00 tonight. the susquehanna, look at the movement. that river is whipping and very, very brown. so we're still feeling the effects from superstorm sandy. she's putting the cold air in our area, 30s. more on that straight ahead. >> all right. state officials have confirmed to us there have been three deaths related to sandy. >> a pasadena man lost his life yesterday when a tree fell on his home. >> brian kuebler spoke to his son. there's no way you can prepare for it. >> reporter: sandy took three lives, one of them in pasadena. the scene almost as tragic as the story. the 7700 block of suit drive has become an attraction, but for the family of 74-year-old donald con aado. >> he lived here. >> the son told us about his father, an jar. as his son boards up, he is haunted by the very last conversation the two had. >> i was standing in the doorway talking to him about it. he said what's the matter, son. he said i'm a little uptight. the trees are swaying. what's your big concern? he said a tree might

dave will be joining us live from kent island, where obviously the rain is coming down. what do you have there? >> a steady rain, measured against wind gusts, it has a stinging affect on your face. this is a marina, sometimes the wind just takes the water and creates waves across the bay out in the narrows. a lot of these boats have been tied up and you will notice that the tide is not very high at the moment. the wind is coming from the north, like many places. the problem is that the direction of this storm is going to turn around and the next thing you know, some of that will be coming towards us. we have seen a lot of people tying up their boats. much of this stuff comes on tide. look at this wind gust. a steady rain, it is just miserable. there is a coastal flood warning in effect. the bay bridge does have wind restrictions in effect and there are military assets here to help people who might need it in an emergency. >> there you go. >> a perfect time to bring in rob from bg&e. those winds are exactly what combines the power boat -- allows the power lines to come do

we are dealing with temperatures in the 50s basically from kent island to baltimore even bel air this morning. let's take you outside in bel air. you can see what's going on. well, we have some clouds out there and also some clear skies so that sun/cloud mix will continue as we go throughout the day. so if prepared for that. now at the surface high pressure is out into the atlantic right now. we're waiting for the comfort to move through -- cold front to move through. ahead of that we have some showers and thunderstorms. and those will make their way in here as we go mainly into the evening into the overnight tomorrow morning. so we look at future trend not picking up on a whole lot right now. but 7:00 this evening into 9:00, 10:00, 11:00 even in the morning, your commute to work is going to be a wet one. we could be seeing some thunderstorms hearing some thunder out there. and also we will begin to clear things out by the time we head into friday afternoon with plenty of sunshine. but for today that temperature at 70 degrees. it is going to be breezy. by tonight 55 with the scattered

michaels, kent island, you name it, that side of the bay in particular may be more sus september table. we're going to be on this storm tracking it tonight and through the day tomorrow. of course nonstop coverage for you and again, the winds ramping up, the storm ramping up and we'll have much more straight ahead. >> let's get to our team coverage. cheryl connor. >> the maryland's emergency management agency. she is saying how the team is getting together. >> reporter: information will be coming into the emergency operation center around the clock. these are your state workers that cannot take off during a storm. tonight we get to pick their brains about if they will shut down the bay bridge and how they'll keep nursing homes running. >> reporter: you're looking at the hurricane hub for maryland. state employees have monday's off, but they are watching and preparing to help out for local responders. there will be dangerous conditions on the roads tomorrow. >> reporter: train services have been suspended for monday. hurricane sandy will be dangerous and perhaps unprecedented. >> we rare

this is kent island, maryland, hours before landfall. we showed you the president within just this past hour. the president declared a state of emergency in the state of delaware. so up and down delaware's coast, flooding has started in earnest this morning. and cnn's brian todd is there. brian? >> reporter: here in lieu wis beach, delaware, where the storm surge from sandy is pretty heavy as you can see. the beach is several hundred yards that way, but the surge is taking the water toward the beach right now, i guess just because of the way the winds are blowing in the storm, see just how deep it's getting. almost to my knees here. and the wind is pretty heavy. the flooding goes on down this street several hundred yards for as far as you can see on the beaches near here. we've been at rehoboth beach and up around this area south of here. they're worried about beach erosion. we're getting some of it now. they had beach replenishment this year where they expanded the beach 200 to 300 feet to the ocean. they say right now that is savinging

let's go to david collins at kent island. tell us what is going on. >> we have cold temperatures, driving rain, power outages, and standing water. any one of those headlines could apply. all those headlines apply. local forecasters are saying the wind is from the northwest at 50 miles an hour. the wind gusts have been so strong it would not be surprisingf one of the sailboats masts snapped. the 75 mile an hour wind led to the closing of the bay bridge. he is not stuck in water. i am not sure what he is doing. we got off the phone with emergency management. they say 1200 households are without power right now. in queen anne's county, 15 people have decided to go to emergency shelters. anyone who needs assistance is urged to call for 911. the national guard is standing by and has vehicles to help you out. the number of the advisories is rising. we will give you those later. david collins, wbal-tv 11 news. we're standing by with rob roblin in baltimore county. you do not have any of this yet, or do you? >> yes, we do. you are ge

island. still, the portion of the route headed into ocean city remains closed. that is route 50 between golf course and philadelphia road. route 90 reminutes open at this time. that's a check of your fox 5 on-time traffic. >>> we are following the path of hurricane this morning. the storm surge in the chesapeake is a serious concern. >> that's right. some parts of annapolis are already feeling the impact. holly morris is there with more on the rising waters. good morning to you. >> reporter: good morning to you. wind is picking up a little bit. the rain is coming down be obviously steady. drops are really big but right now, it seems like another stormy morning here in annapolis. obviously, we know the worst is still to come. the thing of a noticed most, usually when we're down here doing live shots, people are jogging by, lots of people are out. the day is starting. it is kind of an eerie calm here this morning. not a lot of people out. i think people listened to the warnings over the weekend
