and then there's going to be snow for hokkaido. the pacific side of northern japan is going to be worst hit. thunderstorms in that, as well. clearing up mostly by tuesday afternoon for much of honshu, but the snow will continue on into wednesday further up in hokkaido. it's going to be maybe about 20 to 30 centimeters of snow for northern honshu as well as hokkaido, and it will be blowing around as well. so that will make for difficult driving conditions. and temperatures really falling away here. 14 degrees on tuesday in tokyo. not too bad. but zero in seoul. that's due to drop to about minus 2 on thursday for your high. minus 19 in ulan bator is expected to drop to minus 23 on thursday. shanghai, 10 degrees expected. of course further down in the tropics we're still seeing very hot temperatures. 34 in bangkok. 32 in manila. as we head on into the americas, it's going to be another wet day for you along the west coast from b.c. down through northern california. you've hood had a bit of a break. another round of rain coming in. and

so up toward hokkaido, about 30 centimeters, already 125 have fallen. more than that has already fallen. so the current snow depth is 125 centimeters. we nearly have a stack of two meters here in central japan. mostly areas along the sea of japan coast, because its sea-affect snow. we get heavy effect accumulations and we will see better conditions toward the end of the workweek, but another 24 hours of heavy snow to c and orange, up to 70 centimeters, half a meter of this western edge of northern japan. it will get worse before it gets better, and even then, we'll deal with warmer winds, some warmer temperatures coming in, that means we can have this very quick snow melt and that in turn can cause problems, certainly concern for avalanches to occur. we're looking at that danger in hokkaido from thursday through friday. generally, content fairly calm under high pressure here with just some showers in the south. temperaturewise, still around the freezing point for the high in beijing as well as seoul. minus 17 in ul-lambatur. 10 degrees in tokyo. shy of

an additional 120 millimeters of rain is likely in hokkaido. that could very rapidly melt the snow that's there. when that happens, flooding, mudslides, and also landslides are a big concern. it's also going to be very windy up here, so strong, gusty winds for hokkaido but also for the sea of japan side of northern honshu. we've also got another round of wet weather coming from wednesday, so something else to look forward to in the next few days. now, temperatures are dropping toward the north. just around the freezing point in seoul as well as beijing with minus 21 for the high in ulan bator. shanghai also cooling down to just 11 degrees, and tokyo expecting 10 tomorrow. all right. let's head now into europe. very patchy around here. this is extremely unstable across much of the continent. when i pull back the clouds, you'll see what i'm talking act. we've got low-pressure systems just dotted around the continue innocent. lots of windy and wet weather toward the west and the north. down here towards the southeast, we've got a low moving in tha

hokkaido, 30 to 60 centimeters expected in the next 24 hours. you've also been seeing some very gusty winds pushing across the sea of japan and along the coastlines here. i want to show you video coming out of northern japan here. you actually saw a wind report of 122 kilometers per hour causing the damage you can see in this video several buildings destroyed, power lines down, causing power outages in the area. and up and down the coastlines of japan here, you have been seeing these continued gusty winds. actually, take a look off here towards the north, hokkaido, 124 kilometers per hour, just north of there getting to 129. as we look into western japan, you're still seeing winds gusting up over 100 kilometers per hour. good news going into your friday, winds will decrease but you could see significant damaging gusts. snowfall up to 30 centimeters along the western coast of honshu as cold air continues to spill in from the north. even toward seoul, you could see about a centimeter of snow due to a sfrat storm system coming in here from the west

there are warm winds coming up along the pacific edge, and than snow for eastern hokkaido. that can mean flooding and mud and landslides. that will be a concern into thursday. temperatures will not be too bad around the region. tokyo at 16. that's because of their warmer winds i was talking about coming up along the pacific edge. but very cold and so minus 4 for the high. shanghai at 1 degree on your thursday. europe is looking messy. the snow is really causing problems in central europe and further out to the west over the british isles. a lot of low pressure systems dotted around and it's still frigid. the cold air right down to the mediterranean. so plenty of snow is available. down to the southeast, it's going to be rain rather than snow. heavy rain heading into turkey could cause flash flooding problems. and in fact, the black sea region has been stormy recently. i want to show you video from tuesday. this is showing you what happened when a cargo ship was brought in due to engine malfunction. two other incidents off the turkish coast left two dead and 12 missing, acco

here towards hokkaido exhonshu, you have just been seeing the see effect snow machine push in from northwest to the southeast. in the past 24 hours, actually seen 50 cement meters of snow here. going into your thursday, you could see yet more heavy smoker the good news, see this high pressure here? that's going to start to work its way in from the west. what that's going to do is change the winds across this area, shut off the sea effect snows machine for the time bank. bring us colder temperatures, much of japan, north of tokyo, temperatures diving below the freezing marge. this area in southeastern china light to moderate rainfall. that will start to work its way off toward the northeast. on saturday, much of japan will see rain. this will create all of the fresh snow across the area. a risk of an avalanche as rain starts to fall on top of snow. with it, it will also raising up temperatures and then as that low passes by, going into monday and tuesday for those of you that want a white christmas, at least across much of northern japan, it looks like the sea-affect snow machine will turn ri

strong winds are creating sea effect snow along the sea of japan side of the country, from hokkaido down toward western honshu. daisen has received as much as 55 centimeters of snow over the past 24 hours. an additional 40 to 50 centimeters lookly for a large area. that could raise the risk of avalanches on top of strong winds and highways. on the other hand the pacific side should be staying largely dry. finally, let's go over to the americas, then. it's going to be a very busy travel week because a christmas holiday is coming up next week. unfortunately, many drivers may run into hazardous conditions due to heavy snow. we have a winter storm affecting the four corners region with snow as well as howling winds. the system will quickly intensify and head toward the northeast. these conditions are likely across parts of kangs cancel and colorado, and snow will also spread into the upper midwestern states from your wednesday night. as much as 50 centimeters of snow is likely in wisconsin. and to the south severe thunderstorms will be wrapped around the central and southern mississippi rive

now moving over the mountains and really most of the snowfall icing here near hokkaido. that will taper off into friday. this high pressure is pushing to the east. tracking sunny skies across much of japan. some the higher elevations where you see the exhibit snowfaconsi, there is a risk of avalanche. as it goes into saturday evening and into sunday, that's going to start to change back over to snow. then that influx of cold air coming out of siberia towards the northwest, that's really going to drop the temperatures back down again going into monday. a quick warmup over the weekend. it doesn't look like it will be lasting very long. where this cold air is coming from is northeastern china. mongolia, minus 24 for your high. your low, minus 27. beijing down to the minus 5 mark. to the tropics. raining, rather warm for you. mani manila, only getting to 22. you are seeing some heavy rainfall in areas that were absolutely devastated by a typhoon three weeks ago. continue to watch that here. now let's take a look to the meshgz a americas. you can see on the satellite picture

the north, because across northern japan, we had a very rapidly intensifying storm system move across hokkaido and still moving off into friday, already bringing some very gusty winds, heavy snowfall, even seeing winds gust over 100 kilometers an hour here off towards the north in tom gawa. i want to show you a video coming out of here just showing what this wind damage has caused. winds were recorded in sakata city at 122 kilometers an hour, causing damage to structures here such as farm houses, store houses, even electrical equipment and even some downed power lines with electrical outages being reported across this area. so, definitely a very devastating storm, and it is continuing to bring these rough conditions for you. you still could be seeing winds sustained over 100 kilometers an hour. where you see all these lines very close together off towards the north, not to mention snowfall. over 60 centimeters expected here into friday. farther down towards the south, you're seeing a rain-snow mix on the western portions of honshu, but we have cold air coming out of siberia. this is going to c

let's change our attention, though, into japan because northern hokkaido, even down there towards northern honshu, you've been seeing some snowfall, actually going through friday and eventually into saturday, higher elevations up about 20 to 40 centimeters of snowfall, likely even in the lower elevations several centimeters here. even over towards tokyo, some light showers on saturday night. nothing too heavy and definitely not going to be seeing the the snowfall there. seoul, though, with a high of 3. beijing at 1. ulan bator, though, minus 12 throughout your week. let's change our attention here to the americas, because moisture inflow across northern california, plus these high winds creating a very messy situation. these high winds could be knocking down tree branches, knocking out power to many residents across this area, but not just that. the flashflooding potential. all this moisture pushing onshore is going to be bringing about 200 to 300 millimeters throughout the weekend. so there in northern california you're going to be seeing that very high risk. that is the very high elevati
