clearly an attempt by the chiefs to make sure that jovan belcher's girlfriend is not forgotten in all of this as a high profile nfl football player is in the midst of this tragic story. but this was a far cry from any kind of normal nfl football game on a sunday afternoon, don. the stadium was very empty, very quiet throughout much of the game. clearly not a ruccous atmosphere you would usually find at arrowhead stadium. the kansas city chiefs are known for supporting their fan despite this being a rather miserable season that the chiefs are enduring. but after the game the head coach of the football team, romeo crennel spoke to reporters. he was one of the coaches who witnessed jovan belcher killing himself at their practice facility yesterday morning. >> it is tough when circumstances happen. you can't undo them. you have to rely on each other, your family and friends and rely on your faith. and that's what the team tried to do. today we were able to do that and try to work our way through the tragedy. and knowing that it's not over today it still will go on tomorrow, the next day a

chiefs linebacker jovan belcher. as we said, he killed his girlfriend and himself in that murder-suicide. now, just a few months ago we saw the suicide of football player junior seau, another linebacker. do you think this could be related to the game? >> it's a lot of stress that comes along with the nfl. it's hard to pinpoint if it was strictly just the football. obviously, he must have had some sort of issues back at home resulting in the situation with his girlfriend. he might have had a 3-month-old daughter as well, so the fact that he took his life into his own hands in this kind of fashion showed that he might have had some issues outside of football. it could have been stress from the game, but it might have been more of a personal issue than football itself. >> sanjay gupta has done a whole lot of work on the affect of concussions that are common in football. i'm just curious. do you think -- have you ever heard anything about him having a concussion and might that have played a role? >> not that i've been to

the fact it comes days after kansas city chief jovan belcher killed his girlfriend and then himself. the new video shows cops confronting him before the shooting. belcher was reportedly out drinking that night and brent's arrest is the 15th player arrested for suspicion of dui. it's a problem. what should the n.f.l. do about it? that's the discussion over the weekend. people have strong opinions about this. thinking there should be curfews imposed and device on vehicles. host of ideas to combat the problem. >> eric: this may sound callous, but i don't think there is a problem. the n.f.l. offers a service that has is fantastic. if anyone is drinking, intoxicated, whatever they're doing, if they feel impaired or don't feel good, pick up a phone and taxi will be there to drive them where they want to go. no questions asked. it won't get reported to the n.f.l. won't get reported to the team. this is personal responsibility. we need to point out that the dui rate among n.f.l. players is half that of the general population. >> bob: younger males. >> eric: right. i mean the age demographic,

not specifically naming jovan belcher, but certainly a lot of questions. steve brown has more in chicago with this. we heard a little bit of the 911 call before the break. how do those final moments play out at arrowhead stadium earlier on saturday morning? reporter: yes, let's put that into context. kasandra perkins was shot numerous times and fatally wounded by the father of their child. that is jovan belcher, who drove to arrowhead stadium, essentially to talk to two people. that would be head coach and general manager. neither of those two gentlemen have commented on how those final seconds played out. but police officer that was watching did watch those fateful seconds unfold. >> we have two coaches and one other employee here. [inaudible] reporter: in terms of a motive for the shooting, reportedly there was a moment country and argument about kasandra perkins's labor turn from a concert. jenna: in the meantime, what happens with the 3-month-old daughter, little zoey? reporter: in the meantime, family from austin, texas, are helping take care of her.

star jovan belcher and cassandra perkins. the kansas city star and the "new york post" report that belcher spent the night drinking and partying with a girl named britney glass, at a popular bar district in downtown kansas city. belcher drove miss glass home, dropped her off and passed out in misbentley. 2:50 a.m., cops woke belcher up and told him not to drive. he called glass apt spent the next four hours in her apartment. at 6:45 a.m., he drove the bentley to his home where girlfriend perkins recently arrived with her own night out with friends. argument ensued and belcher shot perkins nine times. belcher's mother and baby were there for the shooting. after killing perkins, belcher kissed the lifeless body, walk toed his mother, kissed his baby girl and left. he drove five miles to the chiefs' practice field after several minutes of pleading with him, they couldn't talk belcher off the ledge. belcher thanked the coaches, knelt down beside a car, made a sign of a cross and put a shot to his fare hoed ending his life -- fair

police have identified him as jovan belcher, and had been with the team for four years. a spokesperson joins me now on the phone, officer sapp, this is sad story, and it is horrible to have to report. but walk us through what happened. >> yeah, a little before 8:00 this morning, we received a call from a resident, a 911 call stating there was a shooting in a residence. when we arrived on scene, a lady came out later identified as jovan's mother, stating there was a lady inside shot multiple times. officers went in and she was taken to a local hospital where she was pronounced dead a short time later. about 20 minutes later, about ten minutes after 8:00, we received a call from arrow head stadium security and they had stated that jovan belcher was standing out in the parking lot of the practice facility with a gun to his head. when the officers arrived there, when they were getting out of their car they started to approach. and that is when jovan walked the opposite direction and shot and killed himself. >> oh, my gosh. and the coach said that he did it in front of the co

police say kansas city chiefs linebacker jovan belcher shot the 22-year-old woman before he headed to the stadium he was expected to play in tomorrow afternoon. it was there he turned the gun on himself. thanh truong joins us from arrowhead stadium in kansas city. good evening. >> reporter: good evening to you. arrowhead stadium is a symbol of pride for this city and the kansas city chiefs but there is a lot of sorrow here right now after a deadly day ended not far from where i'm standing. shortly before 8:00 this morning, gunfire erupted at this kansas city suburban home. >> when we arrived, a lady came out and said her daughter had been shot by her boyfriend several times inside the residence. we went in the residence. she was taken to the local hospital where she died a short time later. >> reporter: just ten minutes later at arrowhead stadium a man with a gun. >> we got a call at the arrowhead stadium to the practice facility in regard to a person who was in the parking lot armed with a handgun. when the officers pulled up they actually observed a black male who had a gun to his h
