ashley. ashley: peter barnes, thank you so much. well, the december jobs report could definitely be described as lackluster at best and markets seemed to agree. our next guest says that the markets are harley even focusing on economic data anymore these days. it is all about what goes on in washington. joining us milton ezrati, lord abbett senior economist and market strategist. milton, thank you for being here. we know the jobs report, ho-hum. what will it take and will we see real improvement when it comes to unemployment? >> i think washington has to stop jerking us around. they talk about these, the solution to the fiscal cliff or what little bits there. it doesn't add anything to the economy. it just saves people from concerns that they were going to go off the cliff. now we're only going off a portion of the cliff. we have at least three showdowns before now in march. i'm not taking sides in these, but each one creates uncertainty and it keeps the economy from growing. if you're a manager at a corporation, why are you going to

ashley: no? >> i think it's going to pretty much flat line from here and it's just something that moves in the rest of the year along with any political moves. same way we're cautiously pest mick tick on the market in general -- pessimistic. we see gold flat-lining. some will buy it on news events or expectations of inflation. i really think the gold play is over. i'm not looking for a huge selloff but i think it will be more of a flat line in the one to 2% rage from here. sandra: john manley, scott freeze, thank you. good debate there. i think at the end of the day is sound somewhat bullish from these two guys. ashley: cautiously optimistic. cautiously pessimistic. sandra: there you go. up next we take you into the future. liz claman is back at the consumer electronics show in las vegas. she's joining the ceo of panasonic north america. with a way to control what you watch on the tv screen. ♪ . >> i'm adam shapiro with your fox business brief. interior secretary ken salazar is launch aing revi

ashley: okay. you manage two funds, the focus is on international and emerging markets. what kind of trends are we seeing in that space? >> well, in our world we like looking at currency trends, interest rate trends and credit trends, so in the interest rate space it's pretty steady as she goes. there's no massive inflation anywhere, so no central bank is really doing anything. currencies might start giving us a kick toward the end of the year when we get more global growth. credit is pretty much awesome. ashley: okay. so what are some of the ig -- the biggest challenges facing emerging markets the year? >> well, truly the developed markets. so the fact that germany and the group that's been fighting in europe over the prospects of debt there has contributed a lot of slow growth. china's had a tough time, emerging markets export to these countries and have had a harder time selling their products. ashley: okay. so you focus on three big asset classes. what are they? let's start with the first one,

back to ashley. ashley: jamie, thank you very much. oil hitting four-month highs today amid the algerian hostage standoff that goes on. sandra smith has the very latest in today's trade. >> that ashley that is the wti contract our benchmark here at home. look at the brent contract. $111 today. this is more of a european benchmark. we're talking about global oil prices here. they're up a full 1 1/2% today. jeff carey at goldman sachs says don't be surprised if we wake up this summer to see this price at $150 a barrel. what does that mean for our wti contract? he actually says he expect as substantial narrowing of the brent wti spread. here's the wti prices at just over $95 a barrel. they're approaching $100 now. which means, if he is predicting 150 in the brent contract, he expects this number to go up in the triple digits and narrow that gap between the two prices. year-to-date, hear is the spike we're looking at in oil prices. we're already up several% for the year there is lot of talk about entering that 110 to $110 range again. look

ashley: the u.s. supreme court is set to weigh in on statute of limitations shedding light on when exactly the five year limitations with civil cases begin. rich edson at the supreme court with more on the story. peter: rich: the court heard arguments in a case like instant replay. when did:00 start? this deals with statute of limitations and goes back to 1999-2002. that is when the sec says there was wrongdoing on the part of gam belly funds, market timing to the advantage of its customers. the sec says it filed suit in 2008. that is beyond the statute of limitations. the company says the clock ran out and the sec couldn't act. what the companies are saying or the sec is saying is it only discovered this and started investigation in 2003. if the supreme court sides with the sec it would make longer the amount of time the government, not just the sec but other government agencies have to file these civil suits. if not it is limited to five years from when the wrongdoing occurred and one attorney says

ashley: yeah. >> those days are over. people putting money in bonn funds and out of equities time to switch away on that strategy. ashley: time to got out. talking of stratis if, financials are coming on strong today. i guess you could say that about most sectors. >> yes. ashley: with regard to financials in particular do you think that is momentum that can keep going in 2013? >> we do. we have had a value strategy. so it hurt us in 2011 when financials had a tough time but we kept the faith and held onto them and therefore were rewarded in 2012. our call would be still relatively cheap sector. if the economy does okay as i think it will, i think it can be a good sector. i don't think again you will get as strong returns as in the last year. ashley: nick, talking of values do you think stocks are a good value right now or about fair? other people say they're cheap. other people say, no, they're in line where they should be? >> i was having a little trouble with the audio i think you're asking me ab
