on oil, carl larry of atlas commodities and on currencies, mark chandler of brown brothers, and richard bernstein has grashlly decided to stay with us for the remainder of the show along with austan goolsbee. mark, i'll start with you. if you don't look in equities, a lot of it has been the yen and actually the euro to some extent and the relationship with the dollar. is it related to what we're seeing in the equity markets and what we're seeing in the currency markets? >> seems to be that the correlation between the euro state and the yen and the u.s. stock market is going to become decoupled. i think there are three drivers today in the foreign exchange market. one is the new weakness in the yen, probably because of japanese economic data. deflation, the dominant scene there and a weak trade deficit number earlier this week as well as the job. we got the ecb reporting that more central -- more european banks repay their loans, their long-term operations this morning, and also tightening up conditions leading to higher interest rates in the eurozone, helping the euro. and a third thing
