i love these people. ♪ and it's beautiful breaking news in foster city. that's where three people died in a crash along eastbound highway 92. sergio just spoke to the highway patrol. sergio, what did the investigators have to say? >> well, right now, ama, they are still putting together some of the details as to exactly how this happened. the county coroner is also here on scene. there were five people inside that car. as you mentioned three people inside tonight. unfortunately they are dead. this is a crash that happened just before 10:00 p.m. this evening. it is a single vehicle crash and it happened on the eastbound lane of highway 92 just before the san mateo bridge. there were reports that this was a crash that may have involved a hit and run situation. but the california highway patrol tells me it is a single vehicle accident. a spokesperson describes how it happened as they understand it so far. >> for unknown reasons the vehicle lost control. it went off the roadway and struck the guardrail on the side of the freeway. it overturned and struck a me

two young brothers were among the three people killed on highway 92 in foster city. ktvu's tara moriarty joins us with more on this tragic crash, the victims and the investigation. good morning, tara. >> reporter: good morning. three brothers from redwood city were in the car that flipped not far from where we're standing. they were 12 and 16 years old. now that third brother, who is 18 years old, is clinging to life. now, this all happened about ten minutes until 10:00 last night off highway 92. that time is important to remember because if you were driving in the eastbound direction near the foster city boulevard exit, the chp needs your help. officers are looking for witnesses because they still aren't sure exactly what caused the accident. initial reports say it was a hit and run. >> i don't know how many witnesses have called in but we do urge the public to call if anybody saw what happened. it will definitely assist us in the investigation. >> reporter: now, five people were inside that car. two pronounced dead at the scene. another died on the way to the hospi

three people were killed on highway 92 in foster city. tara moriarty is here now just got some new information about those victims. tara. >> reporter: we just got off the phone with the chp we have learned two of the three people that died were actually brothers and they were only 12 and 16 years old. the driver was 21. he also died. two others survived. both 18 years old. one walked away with minor injuries. the other is at stanford medical center right now with major injuries fighting for his life. he is also a brother of the two brothers who died. a very tragic situation. right now the chp doesn't know what caused the crash. it happened here near the foster city boulevard exit. they had to shut down two lanes of eastbound 92 for three hours after the driver of what looks like a silver honda accord slammed into a guardrail. it happened just before 10:00 last night. the car knocked over a utility pole. and the vehicle was unrecognizable after the crash. five people inside, two pronounced dead on the scene. another died on the way to the
