>> yeah, mandy. intel and hp were two of the best performing stocks in the dow back then from january to october, 2007. intel was up 28% for the year. hp up 27%. things have changed a bit. intel is down 19% over the five plus years. hp down 68%. what happened? well, the smart phone and the cloud. intel and hp both got profits when growing pc business intel from chips hp from low margin scale in pcs. the pc business isn't growing anymore. gardner reported it was down 8 and then 5% year over year in the third quarter. on the flip side of the trend the biggest gainers in the s&p i.t. index reads like a who's who of cloud mobile and services. sales force, apple, red hot, intu it, ibm, all near the top of the list. the question is whether we're seeing another shift with apple's recent tumble. are products moving from apple to hardware from android and google and amazon or will apple's higher end devices have more staying power? the answer will determine who is at the top of this list in 2018 and who is at

walk us through the details, big deal today. >> big one, mandy. ten banks will pay a collective $8.5 billion to 3.8 million borrowers. those are the numbers you need to know. what is interesting is that everyone in the 3.8 million pool gets something. whether they were wronged financially or not. who's in the pool? anyone in any stage of foreclosure in 2009 and 2010 and serviced by one of those ten banks. that is the message from federal regulators who called this the biggest mortgage pay out yet under cash. last year's $25 million settlement with state ags involve millions in principle forgiveness. now the two are totally separate. today will end a long review and costly process looking at foreclosure practices loan by loan. critics say banks get off the hook with just paying out cash instead of having their dirty foreclosure laundry aired to the public. this announcement came on the heels of a separate $11.6 billion settlement between fannie mae and bank of america. bank of america buying back loans for $6.75 million. we have a lot more details

>> we will keep going over the cliff, mandy. the patch work that john just outlined, what they did on the sequester side, those are the big spending cuts that were supposed to kick in and that was put off by two months. we will see another big fight over spending at some point in early march, late february timeframe and same exact time you will see a whole big fight over the debt ceiling. treasury secretary has said that we have hit the debt ceiling but put in place what they are calling extraordinary measures to push that off as long as possible. that can go possibly about two months as well. that puts us into early march. at the end of march, you looking at a fight over the continuing resolution, which is the piece of resolution that funds the operation of the u.s. government. that is coming due again. a fight that could threaten a government shut down. so uch got a whole series of battles coming up in march and we will start fighting today on those and we have seen some fighting today over this hurricane sandy relief bill. so

mandy, see you then. >> indeed we will. >>> looking like a tough quarter. john has three important numbers in this report. what are those three? >> with $13.6 mill billion, plus or minus a half billion. and so here are my three numberes. one, pc client group revenues. intel had 8.6 million in revenue. that group overall, expecting to be a little higher in q4 and that has to come from pcs or servers. pc sales are down 4.9% from last year. if that's right, you got to hope servers deliver big for intel. two full year gross margin guidance, with capex spending and particularly important now because of how demand shifts in the pc market. his intel plans running below capacity. that could have an impact on margins over the other hand. intel pursues the idea for making chips for others. that could push things the other way, a good thing. this number is important because it keep the overall pc demand tread honest and that last number i'm referring to is -- what is my last number? it is inventories. intel said it expects customers to decrease inventory heading into
