across the nation, on your radio, and on current tv this is the bill press. >> bill: okay. we got a deal. is that good or bad news? hi, everybody, happy new year. great to see you. here we go charging into 2013 with the "full court press" this wednesday morning, january 2nd. great to see you. great to be back with you. hope you had a wonderful holiday break. i certainly did. and we are back in our studio here on capitol hill in washington, d.c. bringing you the news of the morning. if you are just waking up you may be surprised to find out that the house at the very last minute of the very last -- actually the first day of 2013, did under pressure cave in, republicans caved in, and scheduled a vote, john boehner did on that senate bill that passed 89-8 the senate passed it on new year's day. the house caved in -- actually -- yeah, it was early, early in the morning on new year's day late last night at about 11:00 the house caved in passed a vote, and passed the senate version, and president obama says he will sign it. we'll get into all of that and of course take your calls

bill to the floor. when it got to the floor, we explained to the leader that there were going to be 14 amendments. eight of them would be brought up and fail, the other six would be withdrawn. a week later we finally got to start on the amendments for that bill. there was worry that there would be some extraneous ones thrown in. we already had agreement from, i guess you could say the most conservative and most liberal from each of our sides, that they would not bring up the peripheral amendments. and they didn't. so a week later, when we finally got the start to vote, and we could have done that the same day, we finished up in a day and a half. what we had were eight votes that got defeated and six amendments that were withdrawn. we wound up exactly where we knew we were going to be, and the bill passed here 96-1. that's how the committee process can work. that's how not having a filibuster can work. and that's what we need to get back to. we need to be legislating, not dealmaking, and i'll talk later

that was the strategy. lot to make the bill better. thy had changes that would be less expensive or less obnoxious. but at the end of the day, it was one of the a bill that was one dissenter the internet and there was nothing we could do to stop it. i did what you always do, a little guy facing a terrible future of long odds a little hope of success. i started an online petition. i call all my friends and we stand up all night setting up a website for this new group demand progress from an online petition opposing this obnoxious bill. i sent it to a few friends. now, i have done a few online petitions before. i worked with some of the biggest groups in the world that online petitions, that i have never seen anything like this. starting from literally nothing, we went to 10,000, than 100,000 signers and 300,000 in just a couple weeks. it was not just finding a name. we asked people to call congress. there was a vote coming up in a couple of days and we had to stop it. at the same time tell the press about this incredible online petition
