let's get to maria molina for more on this wild and dangerous deadly weather. >> good morning heather, patti ann. good morning everyone. 119 reports of severe weather during the overnight hours. yesterday from the storm system yet again we are looking at a threat for more severe storms as we head into later on today. those 119 reports of severe weather were reported from kentucky all of the way down to parts of louisiana and also parts of the florida panhandle. another widespread area that saw sever weather yesterday, 9 reports of tornadoes is what we saw. on the other side of this storm system we are seeing snow reported across parts of the midwest record snow across south dakota. no in parts of south dakota and heaviest concentrated across parts of the great lakes. this is a zone you could be looking at 8-12 inches of snow the marquette area in the u.p. area of michigan parts of new york and new england a wintery mix. be careful on the roadways as you head out to work. we have a number of winter weather advisorys in effect. the severe weather risk parts of north carolina and southea

maria molina is here and she's watching the threat of storms. good morning, maria. where is this? >> good morning. good to see you. good morning everyone. today we're talking about the possibility of severe weather out across parts of the southeast including states like florida, southern parts of georgia and southern parts of alabama. there is a concern that we could be seeing damaging wind gusts in excess of 60 miles per hour, large hail and isolated tornadoes within some of these thunderstorms. heads up if you live in jacksonville, tampa or the city of miami. there is that possibility for severe storms throughout the afternoon and into the evening hours today. otherwise temperatures along the storm system very cool. 46 degrees will be your high temperature in atlanta, in the 50's in memphis. we're talking temperatures as much as 15 degrees below what is normal for this time of year and the 40's for the city of raleigh. actually cooler in parts of the southeast and sections of the midwest like minneapolis where you're talking 49 for your high temperature. we'll make it into the 5

meteorologist maria molina in the fox extreme weather center for us now. maria. >> jon, good to see you. the flooding across parts of southeast texas is due to a storm system that rolled through the area and produced as much as seven to eight inches of rain in a couple of hours. so that did trigger flooding across that part of the country in southeastern texas around houston. we have ongoing flooding we want to talk about in cross-sections of indiana, illinois, across parts of the ohio river, martz of the missouri river and even mississippi river. so several major rivers are impacted by flooding in surrounding areas. there are a number of flood warnings been in effect for pretty much over a week for much of you in indiana and illinois. we have advisories issued farther south across parts of mississippi, arkansas and louisiana because as we head into several days this week we expect water levels continue to rise as the water flows downstream. flooding a big concern for huge chunks of the country for parts of the great lakes down into the south. another area

maria molina joins us with the very latest. if the temperatures in the dakotas are in the 70s, the snow is going to go downstream. >> yeah, that's right. that's exactly what the concern is across that part of the country, across parts of the upper midwest, north dakota. it's been very cold the last couple of weeks. we've had a number of storm systems roll through and producing some snow in those areas so the snow pack has been kept in place until very late in this month. now we're seeing it melting rapidly. temperatures into the 60s and 70s. widespread in that area. over the weekend. we're expecting more of that today. that's what permit prompted these flood warnings and already started to produce some flooding in these areas. you can see the flood warnings in effect across minnesota, north dakota, more warmth expected today and tomorrow we're actually talking about areas of rainfall expected. the crest of the river is expected to be reached as we head into wednesday afternoon at about 37 feet. not good news, very close to reco

maria molina is there taking a look at the sky and our weather. >> hey, good morning, good to see you. it's turning out to be a beautiful day here in new york city. we have a lot of sunshine, not a cloud in the sky. and temperatures are gradually beginning to warm up. so that's a little bit of good news out here. we have a storm system that is producing some areas of rain across portions of arkansas, parts of oklahoma and heavier batches of rain further towards the east across parts of the carolinas, georgia and florida. in florida, off ch severe weather from some of these thunderstorms. so keep that in mind. damaging wind gust, large hail and isolated tornado will be possible. these storms have already produced a lot of heavy rain across parts of the gulf coast. locally up to four inches of rain have been reported. temperatures very cool in parts of the carolinas and georgia. 46 for your high temperature in atlanta. it will be cooler in atlanta this afternoon. minneapolis, you should get up to 49 degrees. 59 in chicago. looking pretty good. otherwise the eastern half of the country,

maria molina joins us with the weather. i was speak to go you earlier, winds could be a problem. any rain could help. you were mentioning the possibility of lightening which would not be a good thing. >> lightening would not be a good thing. also looking at the possibility some of these storms that could be impacting this region could pack a punch in terms of large hail and also more damaging wind gusts. 60 miles an hour. i want to talk about the wind. the current conditions in west texas are not good. we have the wind out of the south at 21 miles per hour. gusting to 29 miles per hour. any time you have a fire outdoors and you have windy conditions it will not help firefighters put thisso out it will actually help spread the fire. the winds should continue to gust strongly through out the day today gusting as high as 35 mails per hour. as we head into friday strong winds are still forecast gusting to 25 miles per hour. the wind will continue to be a major problem as we head into the next 24-48-hours in this area of texas. west texas is to the north of waco, texas and south of th

maria molina has got the kind of -- this kind of map behind you, maria, you really don't see this time of year, do you? >> it is that time of the season where we do get some severe weather, so it's not that unusual. what is unusual is how widespread the system is. we're talking about severe weather anywhere from texas up into parts of new jersey. we had lightning out here in the new york city area. i woke up in the middle of the night to that loud thunder across the area. really strong storms, very powerful storms, cold front headed east. that is why we are seeing severe weather. we have two particular areas hit hard by tornadoes or possible tornadoes. they have not been confirmed yet. the national weather service needs to survey the damage this morning once the sun does come out. one of those counties is van buren in arkansas where we have reports of trees down, houses damaged. in st. louis county, a particular town, hazel wood, we have video of that, we have reports of damage to structures. you can see on the video, video of the damage. trees down impacting homes and a very rough mor

let's go to maria molina for more on the storm. it is not storming here. it's no-jacket day. >> another warm one across the northeast. good news for us here. but we did have areas of rain pushing parts of new england associated with that same storm system that broke a record in rapid city, south dakota. they reached 20 inches of snow. that's how much they recorded. incredible amounts of moisture with the storm. high temperatures today ahead of system very mild, very warm. behind it, it is a cold day. some of you have seen temperatures drop by more than 40 degrees in a 24-hour period. that gives you an idea of how powerful this storm system is with those very strong shifts in temperatures. temperatures across the mid-atlantic, a hot day. 90 degrees for your high in washington, d.c. in richmond some may be setting record-high temperatures. between the snow and rain across parts of the plain, we have freezing rain and some of the ice has been accumulating on roadways. be careful out there if you're hitting the roads anywhere from texas into parts of the midwe

meteorologist maria molina has been all over these storms. she joins us with the latest. welcome back, maria. >> martha, good to see you. this is associated with a strong cold front that basically started to impact the west coast on monday. now it is friday and we're tracking the storm system producing areas of rain across the northeast even down into the carolinas. i want to show you first the severe weather we saw between thursday afternoon and friday morning. mostly through the overnight hours. we have reports of damaging wind gusts and tornados and across parts of kentucky, the carolinas, georgia, all the way down into the parts of the florida panhandle and southwestern louisiana. so a pretty wide area that saw severe weather. nine reported tornados into including sections in mississippi, and alabama. kemper county heavy damage reported. trees down. power lines down and unfortunately fatalities from that area. f-0 was confirmed in southeastern louisiana, tammany parish. trees uprooted and see images of damage out of alabama. incredible stuff. unfortunately this is the

maria molina is in the fox extreme weather center. kim hudson from fox affiliate ktti gives is the update from the ground. let's start with you, maria. >> good morning. i want to show you why we're looking at the risk for severe storms. ahead of the system we have warm temperatures. early this morning we're looking at temperatures in the 60s across georgia, alabama and the carolinas. that will help fuel thunderstorms. behind the front very cold air. between the two air masses that's where we expect the thunderstorms and severe weather to erupt as we headed later on today. yesterday we had 250 reports of severe weather from texas to louisiana all the way up into the northeast across parts of pennsylvania. areas of new jersey saw rough storms move on through through and very dangerous lightning of course as well with some of the thunderstorms. two counties hit hard by tornados, six reported is one of them, van buren county in arkansas and another one, st. louis county in missouri. we have reports of damage to structures in both areas an

meteorologist maria molina is in the fox weather center tracking it all for us. hey, maria. >> good morning, martha. good to see you. what is interesting about the map you just showed we have extreme drought going along areas just to the west of where you do have the flood warnings and watches in effect. unfortunately we can't get the moisture into the areas that really do need the moisture but what happened across parts of north dakota, minnesota we've actually had several storm systems roll through this area producing areas of heavy snow. cold temperatures kept the snow pack in place. a significant warm-up occurred this weekend triggering the flood warnings and across parts of the red river and even across other rivers in the area. that is unfortunate situation. we have another storm that will be impacting this area. the little bit of good news we have the storm it will not pack as much of a punch with a a few showers possible on tuesday and temperatures very warm today into the 60s. that will continue to produce flooding. we do expect water levels to continue

let's send it over to maria molina for more on that storm. hey, maria. >> good morning. good to see you. good morning, everyone. it is yet again another day we're talking about significant snowfall across sections of the plains. just a few days ago we talked about 20 inches falling in parts of the dakotas. today a foot or more can fall out there. we have winter storm warnings in effect and even blizzard watches across sections of colorado because you're not just looking at significant snowfall but those areas under that blizzard watch could see gusts as high as 50 miles an hour today. that will produce whiteout conditions out there and blizzard conditions. that is why we have those watches in effect. i want to show you high temperatures across the country. we're going to be seeing warm and humid conditions across parts of the south. new orleans 86 degrees for your high temperature today, shy of 90 in tampa. it is going to be humid so it will be feeling a little bit hotter than what the thermometer reads. in florida. across the northeast, here we have drizzle rolling thro
