pam cook, ktvu channel 2 news. >>> 7:46. in southern california, a landslide has forced a couple out of their house. halizener joins us live from -- hal eizner joins us live from grand terrace. i snow you poke to the -- i know you spoke to the family. what are they saying? >> reporter: well, they will traumatize. they are in their home, they've been here 15 years and all of a sudden, the land from underneath the house just falls. they hear a pop. they don't realize what's going on. let's go to the video. down comes the hill. it creates a 25-foot fissure. it's a landslide by all accounts. down below a tow truck driver hears the noise, he calls authorities of 911. they come to the door and they tell author jimenez you -- arter jimenez you have to get out. he says i'm in knock. he says i'm traumatized. he said, you know -- i'm in shock. he says i'm traumatized. he says it's all the more story after thinking about what could have happened. he's a doctor. he's a family practice doctor. so he knows the symptoms of being in shock.

cook. >> perhaps it was the joyride or something more sinister. whatever the motive the guy that stole a taxi cab remains on the loose. paul whack is the latest there? >> reporter: i will tell you police say the cab driver was tries to be a nice guy helping a guy that had too much to drink out of the car. during that a person jumped in the car and took off. you can see the stolen car cab was trailed by a half a dozen police squad cars. police say it started when the driver stole the cab from the 3,000 block of 19th avenue. the cab company was able to track the company through gps. somehow the suspect was able to turn around and head back to san francisco ending up here on the san francisco state university crashing into a pole. >> we see this taxi cab roll up and the guy jumps out of it and it slams into the parking poles. >> now police searched the campus and questioned a few people but have yet to take anyone to custody. as of right now there is no suspect description. i will tell you the cab driver was able to get his cab back and drive it away

pam cook has the morning off. happening right now high winds have toppled trees and knocked power to thousands in the bay area. ktvu channel 2 tara moriarty is live in the san francisco where blowing sand is forcing officials to shut down the great highway and it looks blustery out there. >> reporter: it certainly is. it's a combination between chicago and the sierra because -- and the sahara because of the amounts of sand blowing across the highway. whipping into your face and eyes making it difficult to see. if we pan to the right you can see the wind is making the light bobble around. crews are working on getting that all cleared up. the wind gusts up to 40 miles an hour out here. the sand has blown in drifts all over the great highway. so officials have shut down the highway from lincoln has slowed. they have shut down the southbound lane from here to skyline. and working on shutting down the road in other direction because it's too dangerous to drive in the conditions. car wheels are getting stuck in the sand

pam cook has the morning off. >> a lot to tell you about. happening right now high winds battering the bay area this morning. the winds are toppling trees and causing power outages. alex savidge is joining us in it'ser city. what kind of problems to they have there? >> reporter: the winds are letting up a bit where we are right now. still the warning is out for drivers. it will be a rough ride. you can see the sign here at the san mateo bridge. we just came across the bridge. our truck was getting blown around quite a bit. there was a high wind advisory in place on all the major bridges around the bay area this morning. the strong gusts have also caused a lot of damage. in san leandro a large branch came crashing down on top of a car. it also took down power lines and that triggered a small outage. that was on the 900 block of joaquin avenue. no one though was hurt there. meantime in pleasant hill a large tree was blown down on top of a pickup truck. and again no one injured in that situation either. now here on the peninsula this morning, a

i'm pam cook in for tori campbell. >>> we begin with a developing situation in the south bay. a hazardous material situation we've been reporting on all morning has forced a power alert in the san jose area. let's get straight out to ktvu's tara moriarty who is in san jose with what is going on right now. tara? >> reporter: sabotage or stealing copper. these are some theories being floated around out here. regarding what happened this morning, vandalism to the pg&e substakes and also some -- sub station and also vandalism down the road on monterey street here. authorities say some fiber cables were cut shutting down cell and landline service for thousands of at&t customers in the san jose and gilroy area. that means 911 calls were affected, although we don't know the extent of the problem just yet. this video shows the scene headed northbound on monterey. there's a fleet of pg&e and at&t service vehicles. this is the area from which sheriff's deputies say people heard 30 to 40 gunshots around 1:45 this morning. >> the substation has vandalized earlier this morning. there was d

pam cook has the morning off. happening right now high winds have toppled trees and knocked power to thousands in the bay area. ktvu channel 2 tara moriarty is live in the san francisco where blowing sand is forcing officials to shut down the great highway and it looks blustery out there. >> reporter: it certainly is. it's a combination between chicago and the sierra because -- and the sahara because of the amounts of sand blowing across the highway. whipping into your face and eyes making it difficult to see. if we pan to the right you can see the wind is making the light bobble around. crews are working on getting that all cleared up. the wind gusts up to 40 miles an hour out here. the sand has blown in drifts all over the great highway. so officials have shut down the highway from lincoln has slowed. they have shut down the southbound lane from here to skyline. and working on shutting down the road in other direction because it's too dangerous to drive in the conditions. car wheels are getting stuck in the sand
